I have always liked Tomato soup with orange juice in it, but then I'm a bit weird.0

skin the tomatoes (put a few very shallow cuts in the skin, put in a bowl, pour boiling water over the top, leave for a few minutes, drain, then the skins should slip off), cut in half. Put olive oil in a pan, finely chop and then sweat an onion. Once the onion's translucent, put in the tomatoes and fry gently for a few minutes. Feel free to add any flavouring at this stage, like garlic or basil. then add some stock (marigold's veg stock is great) and cook till the tomatoes are mushy. Take a blender to it and blend. taste for seasoning and add creme fraiche. blend again. pour into bowl. enjoy.
that's the basics of it anyway (indeed, its a good basis for just about any veg soup). hope it helps!

My favourite among the tomato ones is this one:-

I always put potato in my soup, either force it through a sieve at the end of cooking or blend it with everything else. Gives a nice bit of "body" to the finished soup.
Don't be frightened to put a bit of tomato paste in to improve the colour !0 -
After Martin's appearance last night a lot of brand talk has been generated and I, like a lot of us, have certain products that I can’t drop down a level on. I must have Alta Rica coffee and I must have Weetabix.
Anyhoo, to my thrust, I notice that a lot of people can’t do without their dose of Heinz tomato soup. Excellent choice, I was brought up on it too.
So, don’t hate me for posting a very simple recipe that, to me, tastes very, very similar indeed. It costs less too. It also has the virtue of being quick to make.
I know, I know, there’s always someone who claims their home brew tastes like Stella but this is really quite close, promise…
Lardington's Cream of Tomato Soup
Ingredients (Serves 2) and Price
1 x Medium Onion 0.15
1 x Tin value tomatoes 0.15
1 x Tesco chicken stock cube 0.03
1 x 142 ml tub single cream 0.31
1 tsp Tomato puree 0.05
1 tsp Sugar 0.01
1 tsp oilive oil 0.03
Pepper to taste (a little salt) 0.01
Total 0.74
Per portion 0.37
(1 x 300g can heinz 0.54)
NB: Minor ingredient prices have been estimated.
Method
Fry Onion in oil until soft, add the tomatoes, puree, sugar, pepper and stock cube. Bring to boil and then blend/puree the mixture.
Now add the cream to the soup and warm the soup back up but be careful not to over heat as the cream will possibly separate if you do.
If the soup isn’t “Heinzy” simply play with the sugar/salt/puree mix.
I may experiment with a healthier Yoghurt/Crème fraiche version but then again, it’s not that much cream per portion really. My eyes! The goggles do nothing!0 -
Thanks, I love cream of tomato soup, will put it on my list to try next week!0

I occasionally buy Heinz tomato soup if it's on offer as I've never found an acceptable other one. In my Co-op shop today it cost 72p per tin. I didn't buy it so does anyone make tomato soup that tastes like the Heinz one? I make all kinds of other soup but have never been successful with tomato soup." The greatest wealth is to live content with little."
