Take care when comparing the price of Heinz soups. They come in 300g and 400g tins0

It is the 400g tin in ASDA.0

Not tried this yet myself, even though I keep meaning to, but this recipe claims to be very similar to Heinz tomato soup!

I've done it by grating and sweating onion with some crushed garlic in olive oil, adding some passatta, cream, salt, pepper, sugar to taste and oregano or basil. Reduce until it's the thickness you like.

I need a fake Heinz Cream of Tomato Soup Recipe preferably using tomato puree as the base rather than tinned tomatoes.
I make my own veg soup/lentil soup etc.
But no tomato soup recipe I have ever used or tasted comes close to what I consider the best.
The childhood staple that was Heinz Cream of Tomato (yes I know it is filled with chemicals and salt/sugar)
It is also expensive.
I don't want a good tomato soup recipe.
I want a good fake Heinz cream of tomato soup recipe.

Hi lilibeth,
There are a couple on this thread that claim to taste like Heinz tomato soups:
Tomato Soup
I made one on Friday from fresh tomatoes and my boys said it tasted just the same as Heinz tinned soups. Sorry there are no quantities as I tend to make things up as I go along.
Fresh tomatoes roasted in the oven with garlic cloves and olive oil.
Sweat an onion and diced potato on the hob.
Add the roasted tomatoes and garlic to the pan and a good pinch of sugar, some basil and vegetable stock.
Simmer until the potatos were cooked.
Whizz with a stick blender then sieve it. Stir in cream just before serving.

A Gastric helps to get the tomato soup a bit more 'Hienzy'. Simply put some sugar and white wine vinegar in a pan and boil until the sugar has melted then pour the gastric into the soup. Hienz tomato soup is very sweet so I think I would put a good 2 tablespoons or maybe more to 1 tablespoon of vinegar (you might want to bit some water with it a traditional gastric would be equal quantities.) Hard to tell exactly all depends on the acidity of the tomatoes.
Watch out for the vinegar fumes up your nose though!Pay off as much as you can in 2012 challenge No. 64: 328.75/2,5000 -
