    Debt-free and Proud!
Thank you everyone for such kind heartfelt replies. Im tring to stay focused on both of my goals at once and basically i have to suceed.

I have VERY high colesterol (SP) that of a 60 year old man infact!! So I need to loose weight, Im on the cambridge diet, my doctor recommended it to me. I have done this diet before and it works for me i just need to sort out my diet for life after cambridge as I didnt see it through last time. I have over 6 stone to loose so i need focused.

The other thing is this diet costs me £30 per week so it doesnt come cheap, i can afford it IF i dont cheat and buy 'normal' food too but its hard.

Anyway, thanks again for you kind wishes, i will try and pull myself together and come back here tomorrow in a much better frame of mind.

    Hugs

Believe it or not you've done the hard part - both in terms of your debt and your weight - by starting to do something about them......don't give up now.

I must admit the diet sounds very hard - especially on these cold days when all I want (at any rate) is a plate full of comforting food which would probably be no good for either my purse or my diet.

If you want a moan then come on these boards - I've found them to be a wonderful way of letting go of some of the frustration I (and I guess we all feel when on the debt free wanabee journey).

    Hi Pixie BIG ((((HUGS)))
I know exactly how you feel i am struggling with my weight also, but cannot cope with dieting as well as watching the pennies at the mo.
I get thoroughly peed off with myself ,it is my fault we are in debt (OH never spends a penny bless him!!) and i feel it is my job to get us out of it, i am therefore trying to make meals out of next to nothing although we have plenty of fresh fruit and veg etc we are still eating what i call stodgy food to fill us up! therefore am putting on more weight!!
Having said this it is still early days and i am hoping that when i get complete control of this money saving i can then try to diet!!!
I am also sitting here watching my ebay sales LOL :rotfl:
(I need to give up smoking too  but i won't even go there at the mo!!!)

You are doing so well keep it up xxxxx

    Hi Pixie,

As many have already said ... debt and dieting do seem to go together. I think it's about control (or loss of it). My debt gets worse as I spend money I don't need to and then I as a typical diet failure I say 'to hell with the diet' because I'm feeling miserable about spending so it's a vicious circle.

I feel so much more in control of things now I've faced up to my debt and this week I 'started again' with my diet. I just think now that every week I get a step closer to Dec 2009 when I hope I'll be debt free and every week I also get 1 or 2lb closer to losing the 2 stone I need to for the summer. The weight loss bit means 28 pounds, the debt free bit mean about 95,000 pounds!! I reckon that if I focus on the 28 and when I feel fit and less flabby I'll feel so much more confident about tackling the other!!

if its any help re cholesterol mine was a bit high i didnt alter my diet but started going for a 4 mile walk twice a week and that certainly brought my levels down i think you need to walk that far for your body to start burning the fats in your blood as i always walked before but not that far

Even though I am a big girl (14.5 stone), I have a cholesterol reading of 4.2 and yet my sister, who is as thin as a reed (8 stone) has a reading of 6.0. My doctor said you don't have to be fat to have a high reading and that mine is fine. Obviously losing weight helps, but some people are just prone to it.

I've lost a little weight and I'm hoping to lose about a stone more.

I've been essentially cutting down on fatty stuff, avoiding alcohol, trying not to eat out. I'm doing a couple of exercise classes a week and I'm thinking about starting running again. I have good and bad days but as long as the bathroom scales have a smaller number on them each Monday morning I know I'm making progress! I'm not aiming for weight to fall off fast, I just want it gone, eventually :-) (Preferably by Christmas so all my relatives can notice the new slim me :))

I'd be sad if I was on a liquid diet too... it sounds miserable. I suppose the advantage with my half-a$$ed approach is that I sometimes treat myself, generally eat pretty normal things and I don't feel particularly deprived.

Life's to short too put yourself through hell to lose weight.
    My TV is broken!

    Hi Pixie

Sounds so tough - this whole diet and debt-free thing. Did you see the prog by Paul Mckenna aboutslimming? Basically, you eat what you want, when you want and as much as you want BUT only when you are hungry. You also put your knife and fork down and enjoy every chew of your meal. He guaranteed weight loss. Worth a try.
Don't be hard on yourself. Losing weight is hard at the best of times but when you trying to do other things as well, like being DF, it all is just too much.
My thoughts are with, as I am sure many other people will be thinking of you too and good luck.
