What about junking the air travel altogether?

You could do the Orient Express to Venice, have a few nights in Venice (on the Lido if you must have a beach) and then catch a train up to Lake Maggiore or Lake Como.

    All blissfully romantic.

Thanks for this. The eurostar to paris did cross my mind but I have been to paris and we wanted to go somewhere that I have never been before. Venice does sound appealing.

If it were me, I think a kindly chat to establish the root of his fears would be the best starting point - he has nothing to feel silly about - we all have our fears and worries about something or other ;0)

That is why I finally decided on Egypt, but last night he finally admitted how the thought of the flight is making him anxious. He says if I do book it that he will go but he would rather not think of the holiday, or talk about it, until he is on the plane!!!

How about him doing one of those 'fear of flying' courses? - you could book it for him as a wedding present! - they are meant to be really good!

Anywhere any closer than Egypt is part of Europe, really. I think it will be hot there in July, though. Too hot for me... I think he's being brave and is willing to do it, so go for Egypt but just be prepared that this might be the first and last flight you ever have with him... or of course the first of many!

What a shame, looking forward to a holiday is part of it, imagine dreading the thought of going!
Personally, I would ditch any flight plans that I knew would make my husband that uncomfortable/unhappy.

On the plus side he must REALLY love you to agree to go! :D

Egypt in July is HOT. can be about 30. Now I know it depends on the person, but for me thats too hot to enjoy. I just sit and sweat and go red and sunburt. About 25 max is a nice holiday for me, and thats still hot! I'd not do egypt in the summer...

I think you should go for it personally and fly. I'm terrified of flying myself but I just try to relax and go to sleep. If he doesn't fly sometime, you may be stuck in England/close Europe for all your future holidays together EVER! Why don't you try Italy... not too bad a flight and not as hot as Egypt in July?
