Wanted: Fab Honeymoon and Relaxed Husband!!

I am getting married in July and wanted a tropical honeymoon :j. Was planning on Egypt....however my finance has only flown once in his life and is pertified about the thought of a five hour flight . He says he will go anyway - to make me happy. However I would hate for the anxiety to get the best of him.
Is there anywhere that is sunny, warm and perhaps a bit tropical that would be a shorter flight away? I am stumped for ideas.

I think you might find Egypt in July a tad more than sunny and warm
It's your honeymoon - choose something you fancy and pop a valium into his first G&T on the flight;)0 -

Is it that hot?!!! I know that there are different type of heat ie. humid heat and dry heat. Was hoping that egypt would be the more comfortable kind.
Wanted a nice sandy beach holiday. Not pebbles and rocks  IYSWIM.I have learned that success is to be measured not so much by the position that one has reached in life as by the obstacles which he has had to overcome while trying to succeed. Booker T Washington

Perhaps you should examine his reasons for being afraid of flying.
If it's the safety aspect then the most dangerous parts (as such) are take off and landing and this will be the same whether its a one hour or twelve hour flight.
If it's something like claustrophobia then I'm not sure what to suggest.
Do you think if you showed him some brochures he might overcome his fear of a longer flight with the reward of having a fabulous tropical destination at the end of it?0 -
PS: as regards budget - if you compare, for example, hotel accomodation on a like for like basis it can, in many cases, be cheaper to go long haul than say somewhere in Europe.0

What about junking the air travel altogether?
You could do the Orient Express to Venice, have a few nights in Venice (on the Lido if you must have a beach) and then catch a train up to Lake Maggiore or Lake Como.
All blissfully romantic.0 -

Not sure what the actual fear is? As I said he is willing to go because he would love to go somewhere different ( than Skegness that is!!:p) and I think he would really enjoy a tropical vacation but I am afraid his fear might ruin our honeymoon.I have learned that success is to be measured not so much by the position that one has reached in life as by the obstacles which he has had to overcome while trying to succeed. if he's willing to try the filght then go with that. Once he's there he may enjoy it so much that he will branch out every year to try different places.
If you don't go now he may get so stuck in his way's that you may end up in the Costa Del Skeggy every year!!0 -
PS try and make the flights more comfortable by upgrading to the best you can afford, ie more leg room, complimentary drinks etc....0

That is why I finally decided on Egypt, but last night he finally admitted how the thought of the flight is making him anxious. He says if I do book it that he will go but he would rather not think of the holiday, or talk about it, until he is on the plane!!!I have learned that success is to be measured not so much by the position that one has reached in life as by the obstacles which he has had to overcome while trying to succeed.
