does wheel balance affect the straight line of the car. My car pulls slightly to the left - is this problem rectified with getting the wheels balanced??

my BF always says you need to get your tracking done, balancing is just never enough!

Most likely the tracking needs adjusting and/or wheel alignment i.e. the toe - would need laser alignment for that. Could just be uneven tyre pressures.

I popped down to kwik fit this afternoon and they found one of the front tyres was unbalanced by 30g. No charge for it because they remembered we got the 4 tyres from them initially. They didn't do the tracking though I did ask as they said it wasn't related to it at all... But at least a check would have been nice :(
  • OK further to that above, I've touched 80mph on the mway for the first time since they supposedly adjusted the balancing and the car steering (it feels like the whole car!) vibrates at and above 80.

I remember when I did 90 not long ago, it was a slip-up by me gradually accelerating then realised to my shock I was at 90, but no shakes. Not till the tyres were replaced anyway :( Any ideas for where to go from here?

i've got the same problem. i get to 90 and the car shakes like a sh*tting dog. I took it in to have the wheels balanced and he told me that one of my wheels was a bit buckled. As i always use the same tyre place (back street one who relies on repeat custom) he balanced them and told me that the next time i need a new tyre he'll check all the wheels and put the best on the front and the worst on the back.
Might be worth having your wheels checked and swapped about if one is buckled.
  • When they balanced the tyres did they do all four or just the front two?

Vibration at higher speeds is often caused by one of the weights falling of the rear tyre or simply not being done by a lazy tyre fitter when a wheel is changed/swapped with spare.

As for the guy on about his car pulling. Best advice I can give is find a local tyre and exhaust place(not kwick fit etc but an independent) and explain the problem to them. They tend to spend more time with a customer making sure they are happy than the big boys and will happily check tyre pressures and when alignment for you free of charge.

Agree with scheming_gypsy, maybe you have a buckled wheel. When we got our car from nissan there were a lot of known probs with the model so when it went in to be fixed we also mentioned it shook at 80+. They balanced and tracked the wheels to no avail. In the end they swapped our front wheels with the brand spankers :D off their demo car and now it doesn't shake. On closer inspection they said one of our front wheels was buckled.

So the rear tyres need to be balanced then? Kwik Fit only did the front two  Is there any solution to a buckled wheel apart from replacement of the entire wheel? :(
