Hi
A few days ago i took my VW golf into a tyre place and had the two front tyres replaced and the wheels were supposedly balanced as part of the price, however now when i go over 70 ish miles an hour i get vibration through the steering wheel, which to me indicates the two front wheels are out of balance.
Before i go back and complain and they try to charge me to get them balanced because of ( Fill in excuse here )any ideas of what to tell them? And am i mad or have they not done their job properly.
Cheers guys

They haven't balanced them properly.
But, as they only vibrate if you exceed 70mph, then they will never be a problem will they!!
only joking!!British Ex-pat in British Columbia!0 -
Weight may have been thrown if fitted at all.
You will also find that manufacturers recommend putting the new tyres on the rear in order to ensure you are much less likely to suffer oversteer which is more difficult to control than understeer.

Effectively, on FWD, this means always rotating the rear tyres to the front to put new tyres on the rear.0 -
Sounds like they havent been balanced.
A lot of places claim free balancing when replacing tyres or whatever - but they dont do ****. Usually it takes someone who knows what they are doing to spot something of the sort.0 -
Firstly check the wheel nuts are all tightened up. If so, try taking the wheels off and reseating them as that sometimes helps. Also check your tyre pressures are correct.
If this doesnt cure it - then they may need rebalancing or as said above could have shed a balance.
As Newskiller says the new tyres should really be swopped to the back anyway as you stand a chance of the front and rear of the car swapping ends. If you do that it may cure it anyway. Even so I'd get them checked out again anyway.Never argue with an idiot. He will bring you down to his level and beat you with experience.

Its very easy for the wheels to go out of balance - simplyt driving through a pothole can do it. Take the car back to the place where you had the tyres done and tell them to re-balance them.If you found my comment helpful, please click the 'Thanks' button below :T0

I,ve had that problem before so went back and told them that they were out of balance where they were ok till new tyres were fitted. They didnt quibble just went and done them and all was ok after that.
ps its always best to get rear wheels balanced too because that can set up a vibration throughout the car at certain speeds0 -
Ah, I've got this problem with my Almera but when I posted I was told it was the bushes on the wishbones that were gone. We had 4 tyres replaced by KiwkFit last April but as I'm the only one who goes over the limit (:o) I've only recently noticed this. It happened shortly after replacement but do you think they'll quibble about it being almost a year? I did notice it before but didn't know what it was0

I think you have no chance after a year, being a MSE or not!
Like someone said, it can be knocked out after going over a pothole - something you could have done straight after it left the garage. :rolleyes:0 -

Hmmm but I did notice it soon after the replacement  so surely that would be enough?0 -

But try proving that to them. Wheel balancing isn't expensive anyway, my local place do it for £3 a wheel, don't leave it too long you could get wheel bearing problems if you do.0
