I need a Paris Hotel

Well, we have booked flights to Paris in July but haven't chosen a hotel as yet so thought i would throw it out to you guys to advise.
We obviously want something handy in location(don't mind if we have to take a short metro trip but not if it means spending most of the time on it), not too dear, friendly etc etc. I have seen the 'best western bercy rive gauche' which is a good price but having read reviews seems a bit too far out? Has anyone been to this hotel?
Also any other advice would be gratfully welcomed.
Thanks in advance

Last time I was in Paris we were camping so I can't advise on hotels in Paris but have you thought of trying Priceline? I know there is an element of risk in that you get what you are given but we have saved huge amounts on a hotel in Venice.
    There's always Laterooms.com as well.

Last time I looked Holiday Inn Paris Montparnasse was only 55 Euros in the 2 for 1 deal. We were happy to stay there. Moved around easily. On foot, by bicycle and used the Metro.

Paris is a much more compact city than say London and as long as you are within the ring road (peripherique) that contains the 20 Paris arrondissements then most attractions and areas are easy to get to. Looking at the Best Western it is just within the city limits but there are three different metro stations within easy reach. When looking to book accommodation remember to look at the postcode eg; 75013 and that 75001 is the centre (Louvre) and that all the others spiral out from these like a snail shell. So lower numbered postcodes are more central than those in the teens.

Erm...no. Don't choose where you stay on the basis of a postcode or 'centrality'. You may just end up paying more with little or no perceived benefit.

Your personal taste should also go into it. As an example, my favourite places(and most reasonably priced) to eat were in the Latin Quarter and around where I was staying.

kb36 is right in saying that once you are within the ring road....

I think that it speaks volumes that I would stay in exactly the same location in which I stayed before, regardless of budget.

If you can get it at the right price, take it.

So easy to get around and the rental bicycles were fun and free for thirty minutes at a time.

The postcode info was given on the basis of working out your bearings - no more no less - and was not a recommendation to go for central hotels. Some of the liveliest, best and cheapest quartiers to stay in skirt the peripherique;)

We have stayed twice at the novotel vaurigard.

Great location; metro easy and little cafes in the vicinity. Will definately stay there again.

    Cheers
