Have you managed to speak to anyone that can help yet Snaggs?
No - exclusions haven't called me back, no reply on the IPSEA helpline, no word from Parent Partnership....slow, slow, sloooooooooow. :wall:
I am giving them till 11am, then will start ringing every 2 hours. Except for IPSEA, they should be open now, so will keep trying them.
Gemmzie - thanks - the only thing is, there will be no record of us asking for a statement, because we trusted the school at that point. Now we don't trust anyone, and will get it in writing if Ryan so much as sneezes.
Kayleigh, so glad you had some support, even if it wasn't formal. Unfortunately Ryan and the other child are in different classes, so couldn't sit together and share a support worker, but I'm sure there must be SOME way to make the next 10 years of Ryan's life a bit less hellish."I wasn't wrong, I just wasn't right enough.":smileyhea97800072589250 -
Just read the above re statement..totally wrong, he does need a statement and the school can then tap into further funding. They seem to like putting themselves in akward positions don't they?Blackadder: Am I jumping the gun, Baldrick, or are the words 'I have a cunning plan' marching with ill-deserved confidence in the direction of this conversation?
Still lurking around with a hope of some salvation:cool:0 -
I don't think it has to be in writing, will check the legislation a sec.
I think the CLC might be the best people to speak to, they are experts at this kind of situation. No longer using this account for new posts from 20130 -
Snaggs, I wouldnt leave it 2 hours hun. I think you should ring maybe every hour till you get an answer. They dont seem to be easily contactable, do they :rolleyes:Is it better to aim for the stars and hit a tree or aim for a tree and land in its branches :think:Loves being a Wonderbra friend :kisses3:

If I post someone a cheque first class today and cash a cheque of the same amount today, will the cheque I've cashed have cleared before the money for the cheque I've sent leaves my account?

7:7 A child will be brought to the LEA’s attention as possibly requiring an assessment through:
a request for an assessment by the child’s school or setting
a request for an assessment from a parent
or
a referral by another agency.48
7:8 It is important that all requests and referrals for assessment are considered as quickly as
possible regardless of their source.49Request by a parent
7:21 Parents may ask the LEA to conduct a statutory assessment under section 328 or 329
of the Education Act 1996. The LEA must comply with such a request unless they have
made a statutory assessment within six months of the date of the request or unless they
conclude, upon examining all the evidence provided to them, that a statutory assessment
is not necessary

Bob, thanks for that - I'm sure that if his behaviour was approaching 'exclusion' levels, then funding should have been applied for.....but maybe that's a bit too much like common sense!
The SEN co-ordinator is on maternity leave (and was pretty hopeless anyway), and her replacement is also the Assistant Acting Deputy Made-up-title Head, who seems to be just keeping the job warm with no real idea how to do it.
The 'needs of the other children' argument is one that we hear time and time again, and I don't really know how to counter it, because of course I don't want other children to be put at risk, or to hear language like that, or to miss out on education because the teacher is too busy dealing with Ryan.
But if that IS happening, shouldn't the school be tackling it rather than just trying to hide the problem by excluding him?
They can't say Ryan is disrupting the class on a regular basis but then say his behaviour doesn't warrant special help."I wasn't wrong, I just wasn't right enough.":smileyhea97800072589250 -

Well, to put it bluntly, the other children aren't your concern. Sounds horrible but your fight is to get Ryan the help he needs. The other parents can fight their own fight if they feel that Ryan is taking something from their education. A school wouldn't serve someone with a nut allergy a nut cutlet because 99% of the children are vegetarian would they?
The answer is very simple, if Ryan's needs mean the teacher can't spend the required time with the rest of the class then he needs statementing and funding.
Honestly snags this all smacks of laziness to me, they would rather just push him out of the door so someone else has to do the work.:A
