my system which is similar has the 2 channel stereo option which sounds great for tc and music but the surround option is quite good for films, i agree not on par with a proper system but its a bit of both worlds on a budget
No dissrespect ~ but theres no way on heavens earth that your system will sound 'great' for music. It will sound 'ok' and better than the tv (possibly), but 'great'? No.
A decent 'hifi' amp and speaker setup from ebay would blow it away for music (And even then id call the music 'ok'):idea:0 -

i know what good sound is, im not claiming it to be the best but for £100 it sounds on par with my other system which is a sony hifi i bought for £175 with some kef audio speackers worth about £230. odd match but hey does the job.
so actually for the price it does sound great.Back by no demand whatsoever.0 -

i assume you have checked the back of your tv for the correct ports....
just so you dont buy this stuff and have nowhere to connect it
heres what they should look like...
they should be in the little boxed off area which says audio out or audio line out.
I had assumed it did as it's quite a new TV (Toshiba Regza 42inch) but the only audio ports there are are under the 'componenet video input section' (where there are also 'Y' 'Pb/Cb' and 'Pr/Cr' ports), 'video' (which my Wii is currently plugged into) and the HDMI audio ports.
There's also an audio/video scart socket and the normal scart socket that my Sky+ is plugged into.
Hope that makes sense.
But it doesn't look like I have the correct ports?0 -

ahh...
glag i made you check, can you perhaps take a picture of the back and or give the model number so i can find oput everything that it has and figure out what it has
on other option i will say is using a headphone port to convert to 2 rca cables to give you your sound but it wont be as good and it will also mean the system will have to be permanently as your tv speakers would not work with something in the headphone port.
so yeh post a pic if possible or the model number if you cant and see where we can go from hereBack by no demand whatsoever.0 -
I would probably have the system on permanently anyway, as the trigger for me buying a system is that the TV has a bit of a muffling sound sometimes, particularly with deep voices. So I would keep it on anyway.
The model is a Toshiba Regza 42AV554D
Edit: failing that I could take a picture and email it to you.
Another Edit: I've noticed that my Sky+ does have the audio out ports. Could I use them to watch Sky+ with the system, and then just plug the system into the headphone socket to play the PS3?
The PS3 is not as important now as I was using it to play DVD's before, but I will probably purchase the Panasonic system which comes with DVD player anyway.4743hudsonj wrote: »ahh...

ohh cool that would work perfect for the sky! those ebay cables would be fine.
as for the ps3, im pretty sure the dvd wil have multiple ports in, if so you could use the ps3 rca cable supplied with it to connect just the white and red to the sytem and leave the yellow, then go into sound settings and get the ps3 to output sound through the rca cables and no0t the hdmi like the video.
i used to do that with mine so it works well.
so there we go, problem solved, you have a system in mind, you know the cables to go from the audio out on sky to the audio in on the system.
sorted, hope i was helpful
edit: ps. the ps3 is a very expensive dvd player!Back by no demand whatsoever.0 -

Brilliant, thanks so much again for all your help! As I said before, having the sound for Sky and DVD's is the main thing- the amount I play the PS3 I'm really not fussed about having surround sound (and Blu-Rays really don't float my boat for how much extra they cost!). But you're right, it's a ridiculously expensive DVD player!
Thanks again!

i would still use the ps3 as a dvd player as it up scales them which this system wont do so its worth connecting it still.Back by no demand whatsoever.0
