Surround Sound System advice needed!

Hello, I am looking to purchase a Surround Sound System, however, I have not owned one before so am a bit of a novice! So I was wondering if anyone could advise me. I would like to connect the system to my TV (I have a Toshiba 42inch HD ready TV). But I would also like the surrond sound to play my Playstation3 and Sky+ box.
Unfortunately money is tight and I'm hoping to spend as little as possible! (is £100 too unrealistic??).
Also, would I need to connect the system to my PS3 and Sky+ separately, or would it all play though my TV? Would I need to purchase any extra cables?
Any advice anyone can offer would be very much appreciated!
Thanks!

ok its do-able, my system cost £100 about 6 months ago, cant find it anymore though sorry!
and it works and sounds fantastic
you wont get hd sound for that money buy you get alot still!
ok so as for connectivity, in your budget its red and white rca cables all the way.
keep your ps3 and sky box connected to your tv as usual
look for two audio out ports (two female rca ports) white and red, if you have these which you should all you would need to do is find the system you want and get a male to male rca cable and connect the two through that port and whenever you turn your system it will play whatever sound comes out of the tv (the tv will also play at the same time.

Thanks for all your help! Sorry for being completely clueless, but would the Surround Sound System you mentioned not come with the cable you talk about? Or would they come with a different cable or no cable at all?
Thanks

Brilliant, thanks so much for your help.
I actually really like the Panasonic system you linked to... just gotta convince my girlfriend that it's worth spending a bit extra for a nice system like that!

There's a £40-odd one in Asda...
But £40 and Asda just about says it all!0 -

hmm well i just had a look and it seems ok, the sub woofer will be as punchy as one of the small speakers on the dixons one though
For that sort of thing you could just get an old logic ps2 xbox type one for £20 that will do the job.
but for proper home cinema experience you need to spend about £100Back by no demand whatsoever.0 -

What's the point in a surround system if you're only going to feed it a stereo signal?0 -
What's the point in a surround system if you're only going to feed it a stereo signal?
because it still has the illusion of surround sound. like i said my system sounds fantastic and is only fed off stereo.
it even has stereo and surround sound settings which sound completely different.
what else would you expect from a set worth around £100?
if you go for optical or hdmi you double the priceBack by no demand whatsoever.0
