Any protection with a paypal private sale?

in Ebay, auctions, car boot sales, post & parcels
If I buy something from someone abroad using my paypal balance do I have any protection? Not an ebay sale I thought they might send me an invoice through payapal.

    So if I didn't receive the item I could chargeback?

    One more question, I assume I should ask them to send me an invoice for payment, do they just put other goods instead of ebay sale?

    What if it doesn't come but they have no funds for charge back?

    Youre pretty stuck there. Can I ask what it is your buying? If its something expensive, like a mobile phone, I suggest you really do your research as it is so easy to get scammed.

    You aren't covered if you dispute and the money has been withdrawn. (There's a recent thread where this happened)
    You can't do anything if it's SNAD.

    No its not a phone, I have bought from the seller twice before on ebay but they are having probs listing what I want to buy because I believe due to vero restrictions so I thought I could get round it by saying I'd buy off ebay. Its about £50 so will have a think about it.

    Would I be better protected using a credit card to fund the transaction through paypal rather than my balance?
