Just tried to do a search for this pencil thing and came across this posted in 2007 by sams247 - hope she won't mind me re-posting it. I think its such a lovely idea.Bit late for this year maybe but worth notingMy sister and I do this each year and as it takes a year to prepare I have headed it 2008. Each month we put several things in an envelope particular for that month, a short letter, some articles from newspapers or magazines, a photo, something we found in a shop or anything (a button from a grandsons first cardi, a postcard from a holiday, a ribbon from a birthday cake, a joke) etc and then we seal the envelope and put it in a decorated box. At the end of the year we have a great box full of different memories and things, and a gift that was practically freeMary

Hi all,
Mel, I'm so glad you are back and are feeling better. Lots of hugs to you.
Hello everyone, I've been catching up on all your activities and ideas..
Re the challenge. Well I'm not going to do anything large as such as I've decided that from this year onwards I'm going to dramatically scale down all my home-makes and instead get the house organised and try out new recipes.
However, earlier in the year I volunteered to make some special Christmas ornaments for a friend who decorates her church and although since then I decided not to bother with them after all, after reading about your challenge, feel that I ought to, even if I just make a few for myself.
They are to be in white and gold ONLY with special symbols on them - or else the shape can be of the symbol I think they are called Chrisi (somethings, can't remember the name LOL).
I was planning to cross stich or embroider but now feel I could do something more unusual as I'm only going to make a few e.g. where you take an acrylic bauble, draw shapes on it with glue, paint the shape in white, then lay braid over it so it ends up looking like candlewicking.
I'd be interested if anyone can direct me to another unusual craft idea that I could use. Thanks.0 -
Found the pencil thing.............there's a written piece on this site that explains it

Was just going to post the pencil thing for you mary - I bookmarked it when you mentioned it last year but didn't use it but will be using it in my brothers hampers. Thanks for reminding me!

I like the idea of putting things away each month - I think i'll do that next year for my niece and nephew (I look after them while mummy and daddy work) and we are always doing things, so this would be good for them - think I'd pack it out a bit - add a scrapbook, pens, paint, papers, old cards, glitter, glue etc so that they could then have the fun task of putting them together - take a photo and this could be the start of the next years one :P *oh my you lot have got my creative juices going now*
excellent little idea thanks for re-posting mary - and a ty to the original OP of it.
