Kids embarrassed by OS?

Ah...answered my own query. I googled for south west sauce and found:

as in a photo/recipe for making your own version of a sauce sold by a certain "chain" lunch operation.....
(ahh....not a sauce recipe originating from South West England then....as was my first thought.....)...well it coulda been a S.W. housewife/chef that came up with it....??0 -
Oooh - thanks for that recipe Mrs M - we love tortillas and will definitely give that one a go :T
I didn't really have anything to add to everyone else's great ideas but just wanted to note how 'difficult' fitting in at school is. I remember when I tried to give my son a more interesting packed lunch at primary school with salads and cold pasta dishes etc (which he loved, btw) the other kids laughed at his lunch and he felt that he had to stick with a boring sandwich and packet of crisps. You can't win!!

Hi there
I'm having a similar thing actually. My boy is moving to high school after the holidays and it's in a more affluent area. As we're in the catchment area, and it's a great school, he's going there BUT he'll be viewed as a Mudblood:p.
My worry is I'll have to give him grown up MONEY for lunches. I worry on two levels here, that it'll be expensive and unhealthy.
You're getting great stuff here. I've just printed the chewy tortilla (thanks Mrs M) and when I've cleared space in the messy kitchen I'm going to give it a shot.Grocery Challenge M: £450/£425.08 A: £400/£.May -£400/£361 June £380/£230 (pages 18 & 27 explain)0 -

Thanks for the support, glad I'm not the only one! I can't afford to give him money everyday and will need to start putting cash away for school trips, extra uniforms etc so have to find an OS way of doing this! I just hate the idea that he woul feel not good enough or be teased! Loving these ideas tho!:rudolf: Christmas Addict! :rudolf:0

It will be Os because you will be making the fancy lunches, not buying them pre-made. Pitta breads are nice and you could make your own baquette type rolls, I have an easy "no knead" dough recipe for bread using plain flour, that I got from these threads called Artisan Bread, just make a big batch, keep in the fridge and pull off a lump, rest and bake when you need it.

You can add anything to it to make it more fancy, olives, sundried tomatoes etc.
His classmates will be asking your son where he gets his posh lunches!0 -
Don't forget Sainsbury's sell basics part baked bagettes for 39p for 2 too, if your own bread does not work out so well.Real men never follow instructions; after all they are just the manufacturer's opinion on how to put something together.0

Does anyone have any recipes for really easy bread or rolls? Would have to be fool proof tho as I'm hopeless! Lol!:rudolf: Christmas Addict! :rudolf:0

Hi Bluestarrz
You can grow salad leave on a warm window bottom -but I grow mine outdoors -they are soooo simple.. we have just had our first of the year on a salad for lunch :j..strange thing is I don't like rocket and the like from the supermarket as I always think they taste "earthy" but I love home grown ones
Fillings for the tortillas how about :-- spreading on a little own brand cream cheese so they aren't dry and topping with sliced ham and sticks of cucmbers, peppers in the middle
- leftover chicken mixed with a little mayo with pesto in -sit it on some lettuce
- cold sausages with mayo and a little wholegrain mustard in..
- salad with some shavings of parmesan in -you don't need much with it being strong and is a bit more "up market"
- tuna sweetcorn mayonnaise...
- roast off onions, peppers, mushrooms (frozen are great
)until all caramalised and let go cold then add a drizzle of balsamic and some bits of feta or chicken...mmmmmm

yep, see the link on my post above for the no knead Artisan bread, the recipe should be in there and all the questions and answers.
If you can't be bothered reading through the whole thread, it is quite a lot, just tell me and I will pm you the recipe as we are not allowed to copy other people's recipes, only links.
It is really easy and quick0
