Money missing from my account!

That's so bizarre! It's not happening to me (yet!) but I'd notice it straight away if it did.
What's really disturbing is that banks can't (or don't want to?) give a good explanation for it. Yes, it's only a couple of quid but they should be able to trace all transactions, surely? Rather worrying for the times when it's not just a couple of quid...
It makes me laugh when they say 'it's only a couple of quid'. I rang my bank about my ISA rate yesterday (it's rubbish) and before I moved it I wanted to see if they'd up their rate to keep me. The woman said 'it's your choice to move, but it's only going to mean a difference of £100 a year or so'. Ha ha ha.0 -
Has happened to me lots when I look at my account online with HSBC. Never been given an explanation, but has always caught up with itself. I will be closing my HSBC account at the end of the month as have had enough of them being rubbish (other stuff). Not going to miss them at all!

Another strange thing happened to me at the beginning of this month. I had 2 standing orders due out of my account on the 6th of the month, only totalled £25. I checked my online banking on sunday 5th and found that both these standing orders had came off, they weren't just pending they were actually showing on my statement as cleared but the date beside them was 6th.
I phoned the bank and the girl was absolutely useless, she said that sometimes when standing orders fall on a weekend they sometimes come off early, I tried to explain to her that they were not due on a weekend they were due on monday and they were not pending they had cleared and were showing tomorrows date. She didn't see what I was bothered about but I tried to explain to her that had I needed that money from my account I could no longer use it as it had come off the day before it was due. My family allowance was going in on monday and if I had been counting on that to cover these standing orders I would then have been overdrawn on the sunday.
Never heard of a standing order or direct debit coming out on a sunday but especially since they weren't due to be paid till the monday.0 -
Wounder what they'd say if I said well I'm only a couple of £'s over my overdraft so it doesn't matter. :mad:Barclaycard 3800

It was always my understanding that money could not be taken before it was due so that if the payment date for a STO or DDR fell on a Saturday, Sunday or bank holiday it couldn't be processed until the first working day after that date. If the due date was easter Monday that potentially could mean they could take the money the Thursday before!!!!0 -

(but they always show mondays date!!)
Have never got round to querying it as of yet never caused a prob. but as you say if i was relying on F/A (which gets paid in on mon)to cover these bills what then!!0 -
A few months back I had a problem with my HSBC account, every debit card transaction was charged twice!! It can't have been a retailer mistake since it was all the transactions, from many different shops. I didn't check my account so regularly then as I do now and I only noticed after they had put it all back, two full days it had happened for and I'd spent quite a bit in those two days! Luckily my 0% overdraft was on hand to cope but if I didn't have that, can you imagine the fight to get back any charges?
I wonder if anyone who works in a bank has any ideas? Too much automation of systems is scary when the bank itself doesn't know whats going on!!Don't stress, relax, let life roll off your backs. Except for death and paying taxes, everything in life is only for now... Avenue QOfficial DFW Nerd Club - Member no. 003

£2 disappears out of my account every time I do an online Tesco shop, as soon as I process the order £2 disappears for a couple of days and then reappears. I wonder if it's like a 'deposit' for the delivery slot..I always get it back and then just get my normal charge for the shopping on the day I get it delivered.0

This used to happen all the time to me (halifax) different amounts each time, I always check my bank online before I go shopping and one monday the whole of my Income Support was gone!!, £140 odd, when i rang i was told it was an ongoing problem and they are aware of it and my money would be returned later in the afternoon..
Just glad I didnt try use my debit card somewhere.Good enough club member number 140 -
as far as the question about weekend bank processes:
many/most banks update the accounts over night, e.g. sometime during tuesday evening (after close of business) or wednesday early (before opening for business on wednesday) they will update your a/c so its correct for wednesday morning so it might show all the input and outputs e.g. it would show your salary (say) and your standing orders/DD etc. Before online banking became available, you would never know exactly what time this happened but now if you log in during the night you may see either close of tuesday or opening wednesday. At the weekend they usually run the system over night Friday /saturday morning so by Saturday you will 'see' how it will look on Monday morning. you are not disadvantaged by this e.g. you're not charged interest over the weekend if your Monday DD's caused you to over draw. The dates for the transaction are correct.0
