Word on the street is Windows 7 will be released late 2009 with the official expected date of January 2010 at the very latest.

My question is how long would you leave it before buying a new shiny laptop with Windows 7 as the OS?

Other - I'm awkwardI chose "other", because I would never buy a laptop with Windows 7 on it and that wasn't an option.
If that makes me awkward, so be it.

Curious questions to someone who, from previous posts, prefers Apple products.Deleted_User wrote: »Why so? Prefer Vista?0 -

I'm one of those smelly Mac guys I'm afraid.Deleted_User wrote: »Why so? Prefer Vista? Windows 7 has received a favourable response so far from what I've seen.
If I used Vista though, I would certainly want to upgrade to Windows 7 as soon as possible. I don't know if I'd get a whole new computer though unless I needed one. I'd probably get myself an upgrade licence.0 -

Other - I'm awkwardI also voted 'other', as I have no need for the only real asset offered by a laptop - mobility.
There are too many negative aspects of the laptop format (proprietary components, limited upgrade potential, poor performance compared to a similarly-specified desktop unit, etc.)0 -

Let's take the hardware out of the equation. Base your decision soley on the OS.0 -

The poll specifies the hardware format so no option was given to vote on the O/S.Deleted_User wrote: »Let's take the hardware out of the equation. Base your decision soley on the OS.
As far as Windows 7 is concerned, it's certainly an improvement on Vista, judging by my brief testing of the RC on two systems over the last couple of days - what wouldn't be? Microsoft potentially still have plenty of time to mess it up before it goes 'gold'.
I wouldn't see it as a 'must have' unless it was the only O/S to run applications that I require.0 -
Never - New laptop? We're in a credit crunch you know!voted never as a dont change hardware very often.
if the price point is right id probably upgrade my laptop+dektop to win 7 when the RC period ends.0 -
Other - I'm awkwardI voted other as I don't chase new OS's, I upgrade computers when the computer no longer does what I need it to do or ceases functioning correctly and I cannot rectify it economically otherwise, or perhaps an OS offers a must have feature or functionality that cannot be replicated in any other way.
I run an XP laptop currently, an XP Desktop and a Vista64 Desktop, I am quite happy with the performance and functionality of all of them.Hope for the best.....Plan for the worst!
