Is there a way to make home-made cordial without sugar? I'd love to have a go but my OH is diabetic so cordials & drinks have to be sugar-free in our house.Dum Spiro Spero0

ted, lillibets recipe is different from yours in that you slowly boil the squashed berries with brown sugar then sieve and bottle, its an old recipe called elderberry rob, think it probably would be more concentrated, hope you dont mind me saying0

Thanks everyone:T
I must admit I "adapted" the Daily Mail recipie and suqashed the elderberries & added equal weight granulated sugar instead of brown, then brought to a boil & left on a rolling boil until it turned syrupy, took less than an hour. Top tip : Don't let it boil over, it's a bu**er to clean off!:o:rolleyes: I sieved it without the muslin but I do have a fairly fine sieve.
I couldn't find any glass bottles so at the mo it's in a plastic milk bottle which I sterilised with Miltons. I know this isn't ideal so I guess I will be freezing it.
So do we think the same method would work with other fruits?Post Natal Depression is the worst part of giving birth:p

You have inspired me to try making a Lemon and Lime cordial. Really like the idea of freezing in icecubes and just adding one to fizzy water. At the moment we buy sugar free apple and blackcurrant squash for the girls (but I know that is full of nasties), not sure if this cordial would be much good for their teeth though.0

To celebrate my kids going back to school today (not really celebrate but you know what I mean) and to enjoy the fantastic weather today I dropped them at school and went in search of elderberries to make this cordial. I went to 2 places and when I weighed the berries they still only came to less than a pound.
I added the same amount in weight of sugar and boiled until I thought it was ready. Just had a glass with ice and I'm really surprised it tastes so nice. I'm going to make up the whole lot and my kids can have it tonight instead of squash.
Anyone know any good elderberry locations in South Bristol?“A budget is telling your money where to go instead of wondering where it went.” - Dave Ramsey0 -

Anyone got a recipe they've tried and tested.
I've done a google search and there are lots there, but a recommended one is always better0 -
Hi,
I wasn't intending to make cordial, I made some elderberry syrup (meant to be good for winter coughs and colds). Anyway, it turned out to be delicious and I've been drinking it as cordial (1 dessertspoon full of syrup in a glass of water). The recipe I used was this, don't know how it compares to the Daily Mail recipe:

I put it in these cute bottle from lakeland:

Be careful though, elderberry is meant to be laxative if you have too much!

Aaages ago I won a ribena berry bush from ribena - now its fruited and we've harvested the fruit but the step-kids are now asking me how we make ribena?!?!?!
Anyone got any ideas how I could make something for them that loosely resembles ribena? (obviously its not going to taste the same - but just something they can make that tastes a bit similar).
They're ever so excited about it and I haven't got the heart to tell them I haven't got the foggiest ....(the seem to think because we make our own crisps and icecream etc - I can make anything!)!..... so I was hoping someone on here might have an idea!?!
Is it just a case of stewing them, passing them through a seive and then adding something to thin it down?!?!
All suggestions welcome!!
