Does anyone know if there is any form of discount available based on the number of people living in a house.

We are metered for water and, as such, have to pay for sewage removal based on the amount of water we use and this charge is actually higher than the cost of the water!! This seems a bit unfair to me as there are only two of us and we are out at work all day during the week. Therefore we can't possibly generate the amount of "waste material" to be disposed of that our neighbours do,who have two and three children respectively and non-working wives who are at home all day.

Surely there should be an allowance for two people living in a house shouldn't there?

Had to laugh when I saw the title - thought of 'Do one get one free!'
The ability of skinny old ladies to carry huge loads is phenomenal. An ant can carry one hundred times its own weight, but there is no known limit to the lifting power of the average tiny eighty-year-old Spanish peasant grandmother.

Sewage charges are not just for human waste but all other water that goes down any drain in your house. 10% is allowed for evaporation.

If you don't use the toilet as much as your neighbours then you don't use as much water and hence your sewage charges will be less.

Your mains sewerage is charged base on how much water you use?

Sorry, I never had a meter, and don't have mains sewerage either!

Love the letter, do you think it would get me anywhere?

Seriously though, our neighbours are not metered and, as such, I suppose don't think about the amount of water they use/waste. They left a hosepipe running for approx 30 hours last week - not on for any reason, just an oversight or one of the kids - but it was spraying against our fence so I could hear it every time I got in and out of car. Eventually went round and told them! Felt like saying "you wouldn't let that happen if you were metered"!!!!
Just such a total waste of water, whereas us metered people are so water aware - aren't we everyone?
