No she isnt but I have been awarded hrc so they have sent me a form for claiming tax free on a car that I will be using either as a passenger or driver. I dont drive so I was seeing if I could claim the tax free on her car as its her that either does things for me or takes me if I need to go anywhere. She does use her car for work though but I'm going to look into it if I can use it as daska suggested.
I came across this whilst looking for something else, on your original thread I explained about the car tax situation, that the car that has adisabled "free" tax disc, can only be used for when u are in the car, or something is being done for you.
This is a example of difficulties and why your daughter should not have her car with the disabled tax. (for purposes of example I have made up places/ extra people etc)
1. you had the tax as disabled car tax in your daughters car, she and her family wanted to drive from Scotland to Wales on holiday, your not going
2. Your daughter wants to pop and see her friend for a coffee, she needs to drive there
3. Your daughter goes out with friends for a meal and she is the driver
THAT WOULD NOT BE ALLOWED THAT WOULD BE ABUSE OF THE SCHEME
SHE WOULD ONLY BE ABLE TO DRIVE THE CAR WHEN U ARE IN IT (that goes with the examples I've just used for above)
If daughter was say going to chemist to get you a prescription, or calling into bakery coz u craved a cream cake, then u would not need to be in the car as the purpose of the journey would be because of you + ur needs.
(hope that makes sense)xx rip dad... we had our ups and downs but we’re always be family xx0 -
Yes I agree thats right it shouldnt be used for things like that and I'm not going to be using the free tax anyway on any car.
I should add though that in the little leaflet that dla sent me to do with this it does actually state that the disabled person does not actually have to be in the car at all times while the car is being driven so long as it is being used for the purpose of that person, such as picking up prescriptions, shopping etc so long as its to do with caring for them and doing things that they cannot do themselvesThanx

OH was given his father's car when he was no longer able to drive. The car had a disabled car tax on it. He did take him to his hospital/GP appointments and collected his prescriptions and medical aids he also used the car for work. OH was also the lifeline contact and frequently had to leave work/home to lift his father from the floor as his mother was unable to lift him.
He rang the DVLA about the road tax and they told him if he was using the car for his personal use then he had to surrender the tax and replace. This was also confirmed by the then DSS.
OH only used his father's car for back and fro to work as we already had our own car and OH used to cycle/run to work. He only used the car as his father refused to sell it and it meant that OH could run him around and I could use our car at the same time.
But OH being a stickler for what is right purchased the car tax because he did use it sometimes to go the shop or pick up DD from club.~Laugh and the world laughs with you, weep and you weep alone.~:)

The above statement is not accurate. The person with the disabled tax disc does not have to be in the car - the car use has to be for the benefit of the person with the disabled tax disc.
Edited to replace the words 'blue badge' with 'disabled tax disc' - ooops!Eat food. Not too much. Mostly plants - Michael Pollan

I think you mean holder of the car tax free status though not blue badge as you definitely have to be in the car to use blue badge. I put it down as blue badge myself first but then changed it to disabled person to mean the tax free thingyThanx

I dont mind you taking an extract of the post, but if you care to read the whole post that comment was in relation to the examples that I used.
I've added to the original post to make more sensexx rip dad... we had our ups and downs but we’re always be family xx0 -

I had used the example in reference to examples of her daughter haveing the car taxed.
This has all been explained to Lady K on her other thread xxx rip dad... we had our ups and downs but we’re always be family xx0 -

In context your statement is even more incorrect as, even if LadyK were in the car, the purpose of the journeys you outline are only for the benefit of the daughter and not for the benefit of the person eligible for the free tax disc.

Some people need a lot of reassurance. LadyK knows she is a 'worrier' and has said as much, many times.
Personally I don't have a problem with a question being asked more than once. We none of us know everything and every time the question is asked it provides us with an opportunity to learn...Eat food. Not too much. Mostly plants - Michael Pollan
