Blue badge application queries

It says you have to give the registration number of a car to apply but the badge can be used in any car when I'm travelling in it. The thing is it would be my daughters car but I'm a bit concerned about giving them this reg number as although she does not live with me the car is still reg under this address and the tax too, she only changed her insurance when she moved so thats under her new address. I'm just worried in case they will think she lives with me as I don't want it to affect my benefits as I live alone. She could change her tax address and the reg keeper address but she is hoping to sell her car soon to buy a different one plus she may be moving accomodation again so its quite a lot of messing about. This is why she left the tax and reg keeper as it was because she may not stay there that long as its rented accom but she needed to be covered for insurance there. She pays council tax where she lives now so isnt reg on mine so its clear she doesnt live with me
I don't think I can use the free tax on her car as I have hrm because she also uses her car for work?
When she does change her car should I let them know her new reg number or will it not matter then as I have the badge anyway and it can be used in any car I'm in?

I don't know why they ask for the registration, it doesn't seem appropriate given that you can have a blue badge regardless of whether you own a car or not. It's for your use only. Just leave it blank.
Tax disc is a whole other kettle of fish - you're correct in thinking that your daughter's car wouldn't be eligible... unless... if your daughter has to use the car so that she would be able to reach you in case of emergency - that appears to be acceptable. But if you ring up you'll get a different story depending on who you speak with, what day of the week it is and whether they had kippers for breakfast. (I have made this phonecall on more than one occasion and it really does appear to be down to the person you speak to whether that's Motability, DLA or DVLA!)Eat food. Not too much. I usually just put N/A on my sons application
we have 2 cars and it depends if he is out with me or OH as to the registration of the car- also badges are valid for 3 years and I should think a lot of people change their cars within that time- so I don't think it is very useful information to the council really0 -
I had already put her reg number in before reading these replies, I wrote it down wrong so many times its taken up all the box and the space outside it but after reading this I think I want to take it out but its going to look a flippin mess if I do. I could tippex it or just go over it. I thought the same actually that why do they need this information when it can be used in any car. I was just worried if by leaving it blank might it might get rejected
I'm going to ask them about the tax if she needs to get to me quickly, I think I'd want confirmation in writing though as I woulfdnt want her getting in trouble
My dla has been awarded for 2 years so they might only give me a badge for the length of the award, I hope I get 3 years though tooThanx

You won't get it in writing. Not a chance. As I said earlier, it seems to be a very personal thing - I've rung and been told DH mustn't use it to go to work and I've been told that it's permissable because he must be able to get to me quickly as he's my primary carer - though it's immaterial now as he's too ill to work in the forseeable future. Last time I rang motability and the DLA helpline - both of whom promptly referred me to the DVLA who in turn referred me back to DLA without condescending to answer any queries...Eat food. I found a form downloadable on the net so have downloaded just the pages I need to take out her reg number. Whilst doing it though I noticed it says this
Driver/passenger status and vehicle registration (to be answered by all applicants)
So not sure if to leave it blank or put something in or just ring them again tomorrow and say something but I don't know what yetThanx

Are you saying that your daughter is useing a disabled tax disc?
sunnyone0 -
No she isnt but I have been awarded hrc so they have sent me a form for claiming tax free on a car that I will be using either as a passenger or driver. I dont drive so I was seeing if I could claim the tax free on her car as its her that either does things for me or takes me if I need to go anywhere. She does use her car for work though but I'm going to look into it if I can use it as daska suggested.Thanx

TBH I don't think you'll get a clearer answer than I got. There will be people on this forum who state categorically that any car with a disabled tax disc must only be used to take you places and collect your prescriptions etc but I promise, this is something I've looked into as far as possible and the advice above is what you'll be told by motability and DLA - and also, as mentioned above, the DVLA refused to even listen to my queries let alone answer them, they stated that I should ring DLA and take their advice. Reading betweeen the lines might indicate that the DVLA don't feel their policy is fair, but then again it might not...
HAving said that... your daughter already has her car and I presume it's primary purpose is to get her to work rather than to support you. If this is the case then, in my opinion, it might not be appropriate to use the reasoning the DLA and motability suggest. But, not knowing how often your daughter has to rush to your aid that's a decision for you and your daughter to make.Eat food. Not too much. Mostly plants - Michael Pollan

I'm not bothering with the tax free car thing, I decided not to as its not worth the worry. You are right Daska my daughter does have the car primarily for her work although it is for me too and always has been, but although she does do lots for me using the car she mainly uses it for her work. Although she does need to get to me quickly at times and I prefer it to be her there are other people that also do this so it is perhaps better not to go with the tax free claim. Having it there though on offer made me question wether to use it or not thoughThanx

I decided to ring the blue badge dept and ask them directly if I really have to put a reg number in and the girl first said yes but I asked her to please check if I can I leave it blank, she came back again to say you can do what you want leave it blank or put one in because they told her they don't even look at that part of the form. Seems a bit crazy that they don't but they don't so it doesnt matter if you put one in or not just so long as you put passenger or driverThanx
