It says that the MAXIMUM resolution is 1920 x 1080. All this means is that if the graphics card displays this when its playing HD Video then there is no misleading being done. You have your maximum resolution.

NOWHERE does it state that its display resolution is this just that its MAXIMUM is.

If it was a DESKTOP he bought or a Video Card then you would be correct.

But it was a LAPTOP that was advertised with a max screen resolution of "1920 x 1080". You can't change a laptop screen.

    @ Original poster:
What outputs does the laptop have?
if it does not have a HDMI output then it's NOT FullHD (since it needs the hdmi socket for the HD encryption and full 1080p playback)

It's more like a "HD Ready" device..

The official website of the laptop doesn't state anything other than that the display is full hd 1920 x 1080, which to me would indicate that, along with every review stating it's native resolution of that means it should display at that/

You are SSSOOOOOO wrong. I am sitting in front of my laptop right now and have the option of 6 Different resolutions available. From 800X600 right up to 1280X800 and I can use them all.

The same when running games I can lower it as well. I can use a load of resolutions right up to the MAXIMUM my graphics card supports so the whole "You can't change a laptop screen" remark is WRONG.

Its more than likely that the HD resolution wont be used because it would slow things down whereas playing the DVD is done on the chip using thier decoding architecture and therefore not such a stress to the system.

Could you show me a review that says its native resolution is that???

    That changes everything

You got me ALL wrong. I said you cant change THE SCREEN!! I'm not talking about resolution! (2 VERY different things!!) The screen is that fixed thing attached just above the laptops keyboard.

By the way I'm on a laptop too..

Also the ACER website states that the SCREEN is 1920x1080, not the Graphic Cards maximum resolution...
But the OP is getting a smaller resolution than the specs say so thats either a Duff laptop or they sold him a different laptop than advertised!!.

Most of them are pre release and have the NVIDIA graphics card.

Tried that little utility thing but no luck, i cannot get any higher than previously (i.e not 1920x1080)

looking around t'internet there are a few people complaining about acer and their descriptions. it seems acer are sending out the advertising specs to the companies and not mentioning that one version of the 8920g comes with a 1680x945 screen and the other 1920x1080. it seems i've been duped into buying one of the lower models. if you search google for "8920g only 720 HD" the third link down explains some of it.

i've raised an RMA request and a nice letter is going off to Laptops Direct tomorrow :D. i'll keep you posted
