@ Scooter:- It makes no reference and just simply claims "HD1080 compatible". i see what you mean though. the actual hardware (in this case a radeon 3650) could be able to display HD 1080 but it could just be the screen letting it down. Still the fact that they displayed the product as having a max resoloution of 1920 x 1080 should be enought to claim "not as described" and i might even try my luck with "not fit for purpose" as i cannot watch HD 1080 movies. I wish i could post the link but it is bascially a long list of specs and then

    Display

    Display Type 18.4" TFT
    Max Resolution 1920 x 1080 ( WUXGA )
    Widescreen Display Yes
Colour support 24-bit (16.7 million colours)
    Features CineCrystal

any ideas how i could post the link :D

    Again from ATI this time

The ATI Mobility Radeon™ HD 3600 Series of graphics processors allow you to experience the extraordinary power of HD with graphics processing designed for how you work and play. Advance to the next generation of superior HD gaming and incredible visual realism with Microsoft® DirectX® 10.1 and PCI Express® 2.0 support. Watch the latest Blu-ray and HD-DVD videos in full-HD 1080p resolution off your graphics processor and free your CPU for other tasks. Enjoy breakthrough energy efficiency with extraordinary performance-per-watt delivering exceptional battery life

Have you tried to watch any HD videos on it to see if it does display HD.. Its just that if it can display video at HD then it does as advertised as it does not specify WHAT it will display at HD. Also try a game on it and see how far you can pump the resolution up to. Make sure you have the newest drivers installed.

And one more point. It says that it USES DirectX10. I dont use XP but if I remember correctly doesnt that just use DX9 and that might effect it also

    PS.

Please note that even though it mentions HD gaming this could be the inferior HD as it only claims to display Blu-Ray and HD-DVD at 1080

The native resolution is 1920 x 1080 which is what the screen should be displaying, which would give an aspect ratio of 16:9. The 1680 x 768 certainly isn't that.

I posted the link above - it works for me does it not work for anyone else?

The screen specs say 1920x1080 but does this mean it is capable of this but does not display as this except for video???? A bit misleading is it not?
Always get a Qualified opinion - My qualifications are that I am OLD and GRUMPY:p:p

i'm not going to be making a point of the whole HD issue. All i am interested in is that the website and laptop description state 1920 x 1080 while the actual laptop cannot deliver this specification.

in windows Vista (as it was when delivered) all updated the max resoloution was 1680 x 720

in XP all updated again the max resoloution is still only 1680 x 720

i've tried changing the res through the windows control panel and the actual Radeon tool.

I would be extremely suprised that the screen would swap to it's full 1920 x 1080 when playing movies/ playing games but not be able to select that resoloution for my desktop display.

Dcodd :- i've PM'd you the link as it is a different spec (and a lot cheaper :D) to the one you posted

Cheers for all your help guys :D

EDIT :- @ Anewhope:- sorry 1680x768 is my monitors resoloution :D

Which graphics card is in it, the ATI or the Nvidia and if so which model? There seems to be three different options.

ATI Radeon 3650. I don't think the graphics card is the problem. It is more the screen itself. I'm sure the GC can handle some rediculous resoloution if it has the hardware to support it. In this case it doesn't and so the laptop is not as described
