Thanks for your feedback. If you’re not loving the idea of a holiday planning board, we’d would welcome any other suggestions about how we can separate the deals’ from the ‘I wannas’.

How about keeping the one main board, but having separate board just for deals only instead? Maybe that would be clearer, as it’s easy to see what’s a deal?

    Any thoughts appreciated!

How about splitting boards Geographically? Might sound a lot, but you already have a UK board, a New York Thread etc...

Or a flight only, package holiday and DIY board? That would encompass most things?

A budget airline thread otherwise is a must, and would have made a massive difference to how things were before (for which there wasn't too much wrong I thought?).

And as everyone will have ideas, why don't you garner suggestions, and try putting them into a poll to see what people's responses to the options are? (Obviously not committing yourself to doing whatever wins, but it would give you a good sense of what people would prefer to see before you went through the rigamarole of changing anything?).

Deals generate planning money saving, they aren't really separable.
The outstanding deals are on the Grabbitt board and in the weekly e mail.
There's a lot of great moneysaving travel tips in many travel threads the search function isn't that user friendly.
Posts are not advice and must not be relied upon.

Useful Boards would be USA & Canada (obvious stickies NYC, Florida Vegas Currency),
    Rest of the world,-long haul
Europe (maybe split Sun and cities ??)
LOW COST CARRIER board-I fail to see why this one is consistently ignored by TPTB
    Ferries and Cruises
    Passports and Visas-and travel insurance
    Train and Coach

Deals would fall naturally into each catagory that way

Did I not suggest this a few days ago, and MSE Andrea did not even have the courtesy to reply?

Would it not make more sense to put the 'deals' as a sub board? The majority of the posts are now being moved to the sub board!

I don't see what is wrong with the board at the moment - yes, there are the 'rip off' posts and the numerous budget airline questions, but I think that the regulars* on the Travel board do a pretty fab job at getting people to the information that they need.

    * I do refer to the regulars and not the BG's - do they make any contribution to the Travel board?

Off topic I know, but I personally do not understand why anyone would mind spending an hour or two reading through a thread packed full of info that will no doubt pay dividends when planning a trip.

Again, off topic, but to answer you're question - I'm more than happy to spend 'an hour or two' reading worthwhile hints and tips but so many threads seem to end in either bickering and/or flirting so it's hard to 'cut the wheat' if you know what I mean.

well, the vast majority of what goes on currently on the travel board is the people wanting help planning, and finding a deal, these should stay on the main board, as they are easy to find..

the sub board could easily be the "special offers, deals etc etc" which has less traffic overall, because these things sometimes don't happen every day..

and i'm still going to reiterate the point that we need a budget airlines board..

i'll disagree with the post saying we need boards for each area, they'd be too quiet overall to make it a feasible idea..

    1 - Overseas Holdiay & Travel
    a - Deals & Special Offers
    b - Budget Airlines

that would be a perfect situation, mainly because the main board would have more information on holidays, as the budget airlines thread would be out of the way. A couple of stickies could move to the deals and special offers board, such as the "beat my quote" "travel insurance possibly" and that would clean it up a bit too...

These are just ideas of how I would set things out, but didn't you all ask our opinion when you moved things around, and then still just set up this rather random board that now we're saying is kinda pointless?!

I don't think there was anything wrong with the way it was. Look, if you see a topic that doesn't interest you, don't read it and move on, simple as.
The common law of business balance prohibits paying a little and getting a lot. If you deal with the lowest bidder, it is well to add something for the risk you run, and if you do that you will have enough to pay for something better.

having 7 board instead of 1 would really dilute how many posts are on each board..

2 or 3 is the target, i personally see no reason splitting USA/Canada - Europe - Rest of World into 3 boards, leave it as overseas travel. (1)

Budget airlines is a must, (2)

ferries and cruises, well there ain't many posts on them, so they can sit on the main board no problems,

as for train and coach, well, there is a motoring & public transport board, so you really shouldn't be duplicating...

maybe at a push, passports, visa, travel insurance and currency could be a 3rd (3)

you've got to think about the traffic to the boards, people might miss a bargain flight to somewhere they might not have considered going to, if they only sit on the europe board etc, so i really don't think that the world should be split up.
