Car costing us a fortune!!!!

Your not alone!
I know how you feel, we have had our car for nearly a year now we have spent loads on it and everytime it goes we just dont want to have to spend more on it but cant sell it.
So far its had a new key/remote (£260) recon engine (£530) 2 engine mounts (£95) various cables (£50)
Now it needs new exhaust, 2 new tyres, another cable, window regulator, and thanks to a hit and run it needs suspension seeing to and a new door.
Lots of fun isnt it.0 -
Hi,
I have a MGZS 51 reg, and since buying it 2 years ago we have spent alot on it in repairs. - A new engine, the slave and master cylinder have gone twice, general around brakes, a new exhaust and today its not starting!!!
Im waiting for RAC to see if they can figure out what it is, but i dont want to spend any more money i have not got!
MMM, my options - i have no money for a new car, unless i majorly swap around bills, no money for repairs again unless i swap around bills???
If i dont get the car repaired it surley will be worthless and not be able to offer it for a part ex, i feel just like scrapping it but the amount of work and money we have spent on it i feel it is a waste, but every other month its seeming like we are paying out on it:mad:
If RAC cant get it working anyone know if anyone or company will pay extra and do it up and sell it on maybe?? apart from getting £100 scrap for it and still no car!
When it is working it is a nice sporty car, but its so annoying im stuck in this situation
any advice??
This devil you know is exactly that, a devil. The only way it could be worse is if it were rusty away.
I say get rid of this basket case motor vehicle ASAP.
I understand you have put money into it, nothing you can do to change that, the money is gone. It's what you do next that you can change. The car is worth no more than £1000 trade in so I would spend maximum £600 to get it moving so it can be traded in and get rid of it.
I don't know how much you have spent in repairs but depreciation on a younger car perhaps still under warranty will probably cost you less in the long run.
Look at the latest model Hyundai i30 (big 5 year warranty) and Kia Ceed (whopping 7 tyear warranty), I guess you might be in the mood for a car like this.
Used you can get them for around £9000 to £10000 or find and older Japanese car.
Alternatively an old V to 51 plate Nissan Primera looks ugly but is a gem to drive (so will be fun like your MG), they don't go wrong much and can be had for £1000 to £2000.0 -

I remember that..wasn't it a Klinger or similar? Used to be loads about it on the Rover Forum I used to frequent. Chocolate gaskets, then those recommended.0 -
Get rid...if you have the space, break it for spares and sell bits individually on ebay or something. It sounds like a moneypit.0

he's right. thats your problem. its a rover. and unless you sell it to some poor individual, im afraid the bills will just keep on coming. and do i have to suggest you keep quiet about its problems when selling?goldspanners wrote: »fix it if it doesnt cost too much, then sell it and learn your lesson to never buy another rover.

No not the klinger ones they are more like the ones used on most cars...The new gasket does not have the silicone beading

The repairs are "nothing out of the ordinary"??? A new engine??? My 2001 Yaris has done over 125K miles and is due to have its first replacement brake discs next month. Clutch and exhaust are original, wheel bearings fine, it runs perfectly, starts first go every time and does over 400 miles on a full tank of juice. The only part which has failed is the rear wash/wipe motor and I haven't bothered to have it replaced yet. Needless to say, that is a French made part, not Jap.
If I was you I'd leave it unlocked and hope that some scabby hoody nicks it and wraps it around a tree so you can claim the insurance and buy something else!!!!!!!!
Oh right, because a Toyota Yaris is obviously a very similar car to an MG ZS. What's the 0-60 time on that, about 15 seconds? Wow, the wheel bearings have lasted 125,000 miles? That's magnificent. Mine have lasted 225,000 miles, big deal.
Wait until you spend £7,000 in less than a year on a car. Then you can tell me what a large bill is.0 -
Cheers Bowdy, do you mind if I post the links on here:beer:I
