Car costing us a fortune!!!!

Hi,

I have a MGZS 51 reg, and since buying it 2 years ago we have spent alot on it in repairs. - A new engine, the slave and master cylinder have gone twice, general around brakes, a new exhaust and today its not starting!!!

Im waiting for RAC to see if they can figure out what it is, but i dont want to spend any more money i have not got!

MMM, my options - i have no money for a new car, unless i majorly swap around bills, no money for repairs again unless i swap around bills???

If i dont get the car repaired it surley will be worthless and not be able to offer it for a part ex, i feel just like scrapping it but the amount of work and money we have spent on it i feel it is a waste, but every other month its seeming like we are paying out on it:mad:

If RAC cant get it working anyone know if anyone or company will pay extra and do it up and sell it on maybe?? apart from getting £100 scrap for it and still no car!

When it is working it is a nice sporty car, but its so annoying im stuck in this situation

any advice??

  • Better the devil you know. The repairs you mention are nothing out of the ordinary, and they're done now.

I'd stick with it. If you can't afford this, you certainly can't afford much else.

What behaviour is it exhibiting when you try to start it?

fix it if it doesnt cost too much, then sell it and learn your lesson to never buy another rover.

You really are stuck between a rock and a hard place.

Apart from recommending you find a good independent, not alot else to say. Think you have found out that they really are dreadful cars. Unload when you can.

    Good luck

My understanding from the little i have read about Rover is that later ones were made under the ownership of BMW and so improved slightly. I believe the Diesel engines used in Rovers later on were BMW ones. MG/Rover still seem to have a bad reputation though.

People were fooled about the whole "BMW/Mini ownership" thinking they were getting a quality car for not much money.

When in reality it was still a !!!!!! Rover...

even so, the engine is all well and good but the rest is just pure tosh.

my mates dad has had 2 ( why on earth i will never know) rover 75's with the bmw engine and they are crap, ok to drive but everything else has that rover feel to it,constant electrical problems on both of them. still hasnt learnt his lesson though.

Aren't the MG ones a 'tad' prone to blowing the headgasket every two seconds?? We've had a few in. We'd rather not tho....... :o

Jeannie, that is the rover 'K' series engine that blows the Hgasket,

did you skim the head when you repaired them as there is a special way that they have to be done not just a simple skim, the ports also need to be re-cut
