surely wedding cakes should be on silver or gold boards ?
Ours came on silver boards (you can just about see them in the pic)0 -
We'll be getting an M&S cake as they taste lovely and will be cheaper than what I orginally planned. Had a few quotes ranging from £350 to £800! We were going to go with the £350 one, but then she sent us some samples and they were horrible!!!
Does anyone know if M&S are about to bring out some new cakes though as there only seem to be 3 different ones available on the website? The one I wanted doesn't seem to be available any more. It does say that they're unveiling a new wedding collection in May so I'm assuming this will include some new cakes to. :T
Was going to change the ribbons to match our colour scheme and my florist is putting together a rose corsage to put on the top. Lovely and simple

I do agree with you the cost you have been quotated is extortionate - i have settled now on a M & S cake just hope when i go to order either 2 - 5 days before wedding there is no problem, am worried as if i there is i wont be able to get another one, anyone on here who has had them how long before do you order them and is there usually any problem.
Do they come with ribbon then ?2010 - Goals

2-5 days before the wedding? They have a couple of weeks shelf life on if you want sponge. I wouldn't advise leaving it til that late in case you can't get hold of them or the ones they have are damaged. Even if you order online they don't always turn up when expected. Another MSE member said in another thread that a lot of the M&S cakes have been damaged and people have had to spend a fortune getting them re-iced so just bear that in mind.0

I saw the 3 for 2 offer in M&S yesterday they had a used by date of july on them, so thos of you who are getting married before than this will be an ideal time to buy, they were just the fruit cake though, the sponge will not last as long before it needs to be eaten. they come on siliver cake boards.

sponge cakes need to be ordered 7 days in advance, fruit cakes are 21 days. You can collect them from your nearest store a day or two before your wedding.
I wouldn't risk trying to buy them off the shelf - dunno about your local M&S but I've never seen my local one with more than a couple of fruit cakes on display whenever I have been in.Cross Stitch Cafe member No. 32012 170-194 2013 195-207.Hello Kitty ballerina 208.AVA 209.OLIVIA 210.ELLA 211.CARLA 212.LOUISE 213.CHARLEY 214.Mother & Child 215.Stop Faffing Completed 2014 216.Stitchers Sampler. 217.Let Them Be Small 218.Keep Calm 219. I was in M&S on sunday I asked the lady & she said they advise to order 3-4 weeks before you want them (just looked at the brochure & it says 21 days lead time) , they only have the 3for 2 instore but it seems like that will be on for quite a while but not sure. My local store only sell the fruit ones, (maybe because they have a longer shelf life) sponge may be available in other stores though. They did have a small fruit cake too which they don't online or in the brochure, be good for a practice run. The cakes do look nice they are on silver boards and have a simple white ribbon on of about 1cm. The brochure also gives you the dimensions of the cake boards as well as the cakes and it says the fruit will keep for 14 days & the sponge should be eaten within 5 days.
Is anyone else really hungry now??:bdaycake: mmmm cakeBooo!!!0 -
