Wedding Cake from M & S

Hi all
This site has been helpful to me in organising my wedding on a budget.
I was thinking of having a professional cake made but a work colleague has come back to me with a total of £230 for a two tier sponge cake. I thought this was rather expensive so thinking of going with a M & S cake - I could get 3 tiers from them and get them decorated with some fresh flowers from my florists.

Do you think it would look ok just decorated with fresh flower display on each tier - I cant personally and dont know of anyone who could decorate them so i cant go for that.

Also anyone any idea as to where I could get a 3 tier cake stand reasonably priced as i dont want to go for pillars.

Any help or assistance would really be appreciated.

Thanks

Yeha of course it will be fab! Almost all of the MSE brides are having M&S cakes if they can't find a cheaper option, i say go for it.
And atm they are 3 for 2!

i cant see on the website that they are 3 for 2 - but i am not getting married for 6 weeks so the offer may not be on then.

I may even have a go at putting some ribbon around the edge anyone any ideas as to how you stick it to the cake and keep it attached ?

    Please

    Hiya,

We did just this. Best way is to hire a cake stand- ask at several local bakeries as hire prices vary enormously, we hired 1 for 3 days for £20.

Definitely do put the cakes on a stand, because although the M&S cakes were delicious, they were very small, especially in height, and would have looked a bit silly just stacked on top of each other- they are much smaller than they appear in brochure pics.

If you'd like to see a pic of our cake on the stand just pm me.

  • Or buy a cakestand off ebay, than resell it after you have finished using it.

I used the M&S cakes for our wedding. I put the pink ribbon on myself and bought the flower sprays off ebay, sat them on some pink card and glued a small pink feather boa around it then just 'sat' them on top of the cake.

We got ours on a 3 for 2 deal as well, they should be fine if you keep them in the box as long as possible, if in doubt, just check the bbe on the box. Ps, the cake was gorgeous :p

Sorry of the pic is too large, haven't worked out to resize yet :o

I used edible glue to stick the ribbon on the cake

They were 3 for 2 in store on monday but it may of ended, worth looking into though, and i don't know how long it was on for.
Failing that Tesco do all 3 tiers and it should come to less than £40 and they look just as nice.

You don't have to stick the ribbon to the cake, just measure the ribbon out pull it tight to the cake and dab some icing on the inside of the ribbon and overlap the ends and they should stick.

Does anyone know whether the M & S cakes come on cake boards ?

I have just won this cake stand on ebay and will sell on after I have used it, many thanks for all your help.

  • I got M&S cakes for our wedding cakes. I hired a 'swan' cake stand from local bakery and got my florist to make 3 arrangements to match all the other wedding flowers (all sized to match 3 teirs). We had red roses as our main flower so I got dried red petals and they were sprinkled on cake table around the stand. It also tasted great cos it was M&S! and it matched with everything else to with the wedding better than any cake I could have had made. I would tell anyone to do the same even if they had hundreds to spend (waste) on cake! lol :T
