I'd hate to see the results of pre-cooked salmon and rice being warmed for another 20minutes on top of the usual time! Is it really OK?

the kosher meals are not re heated for another 20mins. the cooking time is an additional 20mins than the other meals and in a seperate oven. If that makes sense

Kosher meals have to stay wrapped up and the crew cannot open them so they often take alot longer to cook than a regular meal.

I thought I would post a link to this (Virgin: the world's best passenger complaint letter?), some of you may have already seen it.

Now of course it is not representative of Virgin meals but it is a very funny read!

I always order Kosher on flights and seem to get served first before everyone else, they do cost a little more but I think they are worth it.

As crew for VS at the momment, the veggie special ( pre order ) is a spinach ricotta and the regular veggie option out of the UK is a scilian penne pasta dish.

If you do pre order a veggie ie: VGML / VLML / AVML these meals tend to be the same as can be used for a variety of diatery requests.
These are delivered first, this is due to on some flights there being 30+ pre ordered meals so its always easier for us due to seat specific.
FYI: the normal main meals on most routes at the mo are:
Chicken breast with wedges and veggies with a BBQ sauce
    Braised Beef Stroganoff
    Penne Pasta
I know that it has mentioned on here loads of time and those who are seasoned travellers will know that with 379 economy passengers on a gatwick flight for example, we dont have 379 chicken meals. there is on average about at a 50%/40% and 10% ratio's on meal choices and to be honest, regardless if we start in the middle, front or back, there is no fair way to deliver the meals to ensure you get first choice.

On another note, without sounding harsh, I have seen a lot lately that people are ordering veggie meals online or through there operater and getting there meals onboard and then disgruntled that they dont like it, or there is no "GU" pud. Although I will always try and get puds or a different meal, if the flight is full this is not always possible.

If you dont want to take your chances on a very busy flight - Orlando/vegas etc then my advise would be to order a kosher meal (KSML). this is normally Salmon or Chicken with rice. You may not get this delivered first like the pre order veggies as they take an extra 20mins to cook ontop of the other meals.

    Hope that helps lol

    Hiya!

It's great to have a virgin crew member on here- i have just booked my flight for july to new york and wanted to ask if you knew what is included in the muslim meal? I am currently debating whether to choose a muslim meal or just go for the vegetarian meal- I am not overly fussy- I'd always take a sandwich before hand and if i didn't like airline food thats not anyone's fault but mine- simple as!

I just noted some posts further up someone mentioned taking a boots meal deal with them- when I flew in December '08 from Heathrow with Virgin and went to security checks I was told to leave my unopened drink behind- apparently I wasn't allowed to take it- any ideas if this has changed?

only liquids/gels/pastes under 100ml, are allowed to be taken through security, and the containers must be placed in a small clear plastic bag.

Once through security you can buy larger items to take on board, so you could get the meal deal from Boots airside

ive heard that its best to order the vegetarian option of virgin atalntic meals, as its a far better meal. im not a veggie, but usually when im on i plane they get to me and have run out of food and have to end up with akids meal! is that a better thing to do? any one know what a veggie meal would be? thnksx

    Noooooooo

the last one I had was vile....I had to ask for a normal pasta meal as they have better meals that everyone gets to choose than the special veggie ones. This was only 2 weeks ago.

The main dish was inedible. I can't explain what it was as i don't actually know. 3 mushrooms, 2 nuked slivery tomatoes and some green stuff. Not rice, not pasta, not quinoa, not couscous....who knows what it was?

You don't get the pudding, you get fruit - even though the pudding everyone else got was suitable for vegetarians.

I ended up going online and changing from vege meal option to the standard, and got a nice dish on the way back. Plus the pudding. And you get creamer with the normal meal whereas you get some disgusting liquid with the veggie one.

Have you actually eaten the 'spinach ricotta'? It is VILE. VILE VILE VILE. The person serving me couldn't explain what I was given, it was a green mush and totally unrecognisable as anything I have ever eaten before.

That might be why people dont like it. VILE. Inedible for anyone with taste buds. Some people might eat it if they are starving but please feed back how VILE this is.

This is the first I've heard about it having a 'name', it was unrecognisable.

    VILE.
