The local trading standards there is reluctant to act - despite my local office agreeing that the wording of the site means I should be able to get it.

They do not have to sell you one if they do not want to; nor do they have to give any reason for not doing so.

This is not one for Trading Standards.

My local Trading Standards Office disagreed with you, they were looking at the wording of the site which mis-describes the restriction, and felt that were it within their area they would have looked at taking action. The Office local to Micro Peripherals said they would consider action "if there were more complaints" but had logged the issue anyhow.

Had it been accurately worded I would have known I was excluded at the start.

Excluded? Have you no one who can purchase it on your behalf? It does appear that you are taking it a little too far.

Why don't you give someone in "your local TS office" a tenner to get it for you?

With very little effort you see that these dongles are actually intended for IT proffesionals.

Have a look around the site or google.;)

Micro Peripherals would disagree with that view, they are under the impression this is a "seeding program" to get the units out there into use by the public, that was the term used by the manager from M.P. who called me yesterday afternoon in response to the letter from Trading Standards. and the web page seems to support that mentioning using the dongle at home or when you are out and about. They are monitoring the activation rate for these units too, he did mention the percentage activated on 3. Clearly this isnt about connecting IT Pros, who are unlikely to be using the PAYG facility mentioned on the web page, so I think your view is somewhat mistaken.

He agrees with my views on the wording of the site - backed up with opinion from Trading Standards and tells me the wording will be amended, further we discussed my experience with their Customer Service line that I called and agrees that the call was badly handled and should have been escalated.

I'm content, my points have been taken on board, and I have a unit coming out in the post to me. For me the matter is closed.

So I've read most of this thread and...

    The donlge is ordered.
    The unlock software is downloaded.

So am I right in thinking:
I unlock the dongle and configure the APN
I buy a 02 iPhone PAYG SIM and top up with £10 (how do I top up?)
    Put SIM in the dongle
    Surf

    All sound correct?
