Apple dropping prices...

Games mate, virutalisation aint gonna cut it I'm afraid, and thats all I use windows for. The rest of the time is spent in linux. PCs are good for summit.
I also dont get the big thing about resale value. I buy a PC to use till its broke, or needs upgrading. The car analogy doesn't really fit, BMWs are probably more powerful, costly, and efficient than a mondeo, but Macs are more expensive for like for like hardware that does the same thing. The issue is software and PC dont mean windows.
All fair points, I'd agree Windows / PC is best for your requirements (as it is for 50% of mine!)
What people overlook with Macs, is that much more functionality is built into the OS and with bundled core apps like iLife than is with Windows, and although essentially the "engines" are the same, the build quality (especially important in laptops and all-in-ones IMO) are better in general with Apple gear compared with most PC brands.0 -
I really need a laser cut case and backlit keyboard, makes my computer much more useful, LED screen are nice but not exactly needed as is wireless-n.
If you don't want those things, then fair enough. But that doesn't mean they shouldn't cost more.
A leather interior in a car costs more whether you want it or not.Macs are more expensive for like for like hardware that does the same thing. The issue is software and PC dont mean windows.
Where are the PCs that have the same hardware?
I want all I mentioned above. A precision metal body, a back-lit keyboard, an ambient light sensor, 802.11n wifi, bluetooth, Firewire 800 and a built-in webcam and microphone. I want it to close magnetically instead of having a breakable clasp that holds it shut. I also want a power lead that attaches magnetically so it pops out if I trip over it. If it could also be designed by the best product-design team in the world, that would be great too.
Now, where is this cheaper PC that offers all that?0 -

I'll not argue with you I dont have a Mac so have no basis for a comparison.
My old acer lappy lasted five years and was only replaced because I needed an upgrade. Wasn't the prettiest did its job cost 300 quid, cant argue with that. Actually wish I'd kept it, linux would have resurrected it.
The bundled apps thing appeals, thats why I use linux, it comes with everything.0 -

The power connection has to be one of the simplest yet impressive designs I have seen on anything.0 -

i didn't mean to upset evryone but at work when a load of macs come in on a pallet ( what a mess they are .. have you tried stacking macs on a pallet, not good, pc's can stack 10 high) they go through the system, sit around for a bit and then when unsold all get disposed of. there may be loads on ebay, but how many of them are actually selling.
The analogy with ford and bmw is quite good in the fact that a 2nd hand mondeo is more sellable than a large expensive to run 2nd hand beamer, just ask any car dealer.
I don't actually have preference between macs and pcs I just want to sell them. mac buyers are few and far between and generally they are at the wealthy end of society so 2nd hand is not an option.
just to get back to topic. I'll put money onthe fact there will not be any pricedrop from apple in the near future, they are too busy laughing all the way to the bankNudge nudge, Wink wink, Say No More!0 -
Thought of 2 better cars to compare, the fiat 500 and panda. Exactly the same under the looks yet one is better looking and costs more.
I must say this be a personal niggle but why does 95% of the programs have to be i(insert program name here). It would really do my head in using imovie player to watch iporn I have downloaded on my itorrent program, then using idvd burner to burn it to a disc or itunes to put it on my ipod or iphone. Yes this is mostly made up but you must know what i mean.Have my first business premises (+4th business) 01/11/2017

Why do these threads end up as a big mess of people slating macs? I'd like a mac, but I'd prefer a desktop that I can get inside and stick in another HDD, maybe a RAID system. Can't do that with a mini or imac, and the mac pro is just taking things a little too far.Ubuntu is an ancient African word, meaning: 'I can't configure Debian'.0

Never had to stack on a pallet, I don't get down a dirty at director level
(however I did in the past!!)
I think you aren't selling the the right way. Perhaps you are trying to off load them to PC only channels who don't understand. A few years ago a client of mine sold over 60Ks worth of Macs on a sweeping upgrad, 2 dealers fought over them, and we sold the batch to the highest bidder, with a few "newer" ones going to staff after secure wipes were performed.
People fight over them on eBay, just search for sold items in the Advanced Search... I sold 2 recently and both have 20 to 30 bids each, and they were old (ancient in face), some of the more modern models have massive interest, pitch it right and make a sale. It's just like anything electronic on eBay, if it's sought after like Apple, B&O, Linn etc, it'll sell for a decent value, if it's cheap and chips mainstream you'll get bottom dollar.
Back to the aside: Why are all second hand BMWs "large and costly to run"? All the older 3-series (most popular of the range) E46s (6 to 10 years old) are great cars, class leaders, the smaller 2 litre diesels and petrols are excellent value for money and very efficient.
Perhaps you should maybe compare like with like say a 330d or i BMW vs a ST24 Mondeo, or 1.8/2.0l with the same from each range second hand, still the 330d is as fast as the 330 petrol yet incredibly efficient for a 3.5l engine, hence why it commands better second hand values, and rare as rocking horse poo too! Or add a Merc C 200, 230 to the mix, Audi A4 etc.
A more efficient, better engineered, and better performing say for example 2 litre diesel BMW vs a less engineered, worse performing, less efficient 2l diesel mondeo second hand, I know exactly which would move the quickest from the forecourt, but I also know the BM would cost more, because it's better.
A BM dealer wouldn't be able to sell a Mondy on his forecourt (imagine their suited horror lol), but ironically at the right price, a Ford dealer might get interest for a BM...
Some people want one, some want the other, everyone is difference, to dismiss any one out of hand - i.e. analogy with the Mac out of hand, isn't right, everything has it's place. Apple are making money hand over fist, so they are doing something right.
Still back to the point, I doubt they'll drop the prices

I think it's more about the brand of Apple, I mean look at the sansa fuze and the iPod shuffle, same price (ish at £50) yet the sansa's much better by a long shot. There's even more proof that it's all about the brand when Apple bundle Apple stickers with their goods.
Anything with the prefix 'i' belongs to Apple,0
