Oh and actually, after dreading going in to work with that horrible gut feeling you get, it wasn't too bad. I think having an interview lined up does help you chill a little about your work. It is that light at the end of the tunnel that does it! That warm smug feeling you get when you are given a task with a long deadline, thinking, HA it won't be me doing it! Long Live procrastination!!!

Ohhhh theres plenty more dross where that can from! I am so tempted to fast forward to chapter 32, "small economies won't make you wealthy, but they will make you miserable", ohhh I can see it now, that IS the chapter my OH will agree with, and then ask for a takeaway! I think this one will create some debate!

Any way, haven't you some carpenting for a climbing frame to finish!!!

Oh no poor mountaineer! Try telling a child with chicken pox it is better to get it out of the way whilst young? Anyway, mountain clinging sounds comforting, but perhaps not in this heat.

    Hi KJ,

just read thro your thread and wanted to wish you the best for the interview.

If it's any consolation, following on from Hypnos piece on gearing, our property empire is perilously based on that lovely principle.

My OH is completely anti-finance, he fell asleep during a bank interview once, we were alerted by the snoring! The way to make him sweat is murmur "Its only 1.8, if we sign up a couple more its a round £2million!" He identifies each property by the thing he liked most "Magnetic knife rack flat", "Views over the Forth house" etc. I identify each by ltv percentage, mortgage rate and liklihood of tenant maybe paying this month :rotfl:

So wealthy for me would be one place in the Highlands by water, regular source of non-tenant-grief-related income and a Henry Higgins library of my very own.

Hmmmm Kissjenn, may be should have a run of a few PMs somtime!

Any way folks, I have some GRAND news!

You remember my objective, set after reading chapter 3, novelly called "set your objectives"? My first post went along the lines of make my rental property pay for itself? But I didnt know how. Then I did some sums and realised I needed a 6 month winter let from November and 8 weeks rental high season? Well, my tenant wants to stay on (awfully good tenant) if I get a couple of not unreasonable jobs done, and she will vacate during summer to allow me to take advantage of high season rents. If bank agree to a period of interest only, when my fixed rate ends soon, we should break almost even over 12 months from then. I so know this is a step in the right direction, and will free up around £18,000 of income. Whoopee! It seems setting objectives and focussing on your needs might actually work. Feeling very positive for Fridays interview, I am on a roll! Have decided to take advice of previous poster and apply for other jobs aswell. So I ran the job description of another job with lots more money to a trusted colleague, and he said, "you have to go for that job, it was written for you". I was quite stunned. Could I really up my income that much? 50% more? Hmmmm. Think I will apply. Suddenly property debts of silly amounts don't seem so unmanageable

Chapter 9, almost in double figures

"decide what you want money for". This is about understanding that money alone won't make you happy, it is what you use it for. ie spend it on drugs = unhappy, spend it on dream farm/horse/goodness knows what = happiness. Sounds like more therapy, but it does strike a chord on one level with me, which is, if i have baggage, I will still have it when wealthy. So baggage has to go with the debt repayments. Not that I have much baggage. We have discussed the possibility of moving away somewhere new a few times, but I think the realisation that life might not be very different, just a different place has stopped me. But at some point, when the time is right, I will have my dream.
