It could also be the thread your using, my machine was like that when i used thread that was`nt what i call a branded one, i`d bought about 6 reels for a £1 and now just use that for tacking etc.0

Old machines especially can be temperamental about thread, one of mine will only use thicker cotton thread and another favours a certain brand!Member 1145 Sealed Pot Challenge No4

I have just rang the shop and the lady was very helpful and has said that she thinks that I have either not threaded the machine correctly, or I have threaded it whilst the needle is ot fully up and therefore the tension will be wrong....
A new needle was put on it on Saturday by the shop during the service, so she said it shouldn't be the needle...
I am going to give it another go tonight, but she said to pop in the shop with the machine if I am still struggling and they will run through it with me, no charge.
Thank you all very much for your help.0 -
Hi guys,
I'm sure there's a Sewing Room, but d'you think I can find it ~ I need a Sat Nav for MSE!
Anyhoo, it's been years since I last used a sewing machine, but I have done so in the past, and successfully threaded and bobbinned an old hand wheel type Singer and a small electric machine, to make and repair.
DH bought me a lovely Toyota machine for Christmas (in the Jan sales), and d'you think I can thread the bloody thing? I've been through the instructions repeatedly, I can't get the it to sew. The upper thread simply pulls out of the needle, yet seems to run freely in my fingers, the bobbin was c*oming through-*, 9*till I fiddled wth it, wondering if there was some reason it wasn't making it with the upper, and despite reinserting exactly as it came out, and per instructions, the needs8/*96won't pick it up.
What am I doing wrong?I ave a dodgy H, so sometimes I will sound dead common, on occasion dead stupid and rarely, pig ignorant. Sometimes I may be these things, but I will always blame it on my dodgy H.
Sorry, I'm a bit of a grumble weed today, no offence intended ... well it might be, but I'll be sorry.0 -
It does sound as if it is not being threaded properly, I spent 8 years threading mine wrong! and had terrible trouble. Look closely at pictures of how to do it carefully, as this was my problem. Best of luck0

We have a thread (sorry
)on sewing machine problems, so as this has fallen from the front page of OS, I'll merge this so you can see if your problem is there. It's definitely tension, so have a fiddle with that

Hi guys,
I used to be a dab hand on a sewing machine for bits and pieces but havn't used one in ages.
Bought a little mini one for some crafty bits and bobs and was sitting down to go over it today. Have got it threaded but when I try and sew the top thread doesn't catch the bottom thread and so nothing actually gets sewn (if that makes any sense at all)
Got a feeling everything I knew about them has gone out my mind hehe and that this is a stupid question- but would rather ask the stupid question and get the answer than plod on in anguish lol.
(have also posted this on special occassions)
Hi, check the needle is in right or that it isn't screwed in too high . HTH0 -
I'm hoping someone can recommend a good online tutorial or help pages for help with a sewing machine.
I'm really only a basic user and I'm having problems with my machine and I'm totally stuck on how to fix it.
I bought it on ebay, it's an old machine and the seller hadn't got the manual so I can't even refer to this.
I was having problems with getting the needle to pick up the bottom bobbin thread. I then managed to get it looped but it now won't sew properly.
When you look at the reverse the stitches are not evenly sized and at one point there is a tangle of threads. Then the bottom thread doesn't seem to pick up properly and the top thread breaks....
I'm probably not explaining myself properly but I'm not really sure what to try to fix it, I've not really tried anything as a bit stuck as to where to start.
It's an old machine, a Necchi Sewline 8. I reckon from the 70s judging from the style of it but it seems to be a fairly standard type of sewing machine.
I've tried a google search but nothing really helpful has turned up so far, I'm probably not looking in the right places!
Thanks in advanceI've got my own flat :j:j
Now I have to pay the bills
