Had a google about and believe there is a Necchi group on Yahoo
you could join.0 -
If there is a mess of stitches on the bottom, it means your tension is wrong. Start your tension at 5 if it's one to 10 and start from there with a bit of scrap material. Keep adjusting until you get the right thing.
Yes, you will have to pick all of the threads completely out of the machine and it might be worth putting a bit of wd40 on the working parts.
PM me if you want any more advice. I am not an expert, but have had this myself and have managed to fix.0 -
Many thanks to you both.
I'll check out the Yahoo Groups and give MrsCrafty's tip a try this weekend....you may well be getting a pm!!I've got my own flat :j:j

Open the bit where the bobbin goes in, take the bobbin out, and make absolutely sure there are definitely no little stray threads or bits of fluff in there.
Then rethread it completely from scratch, and make sure it's threaded properly. Have you managed to find a threading diagram from anywhere? I remember using an old Necchi a few years ago and found it very fiddly to thread. But if you've missed out something or done something slightly wrong when threading the machine, it can cause problems similar to what you're having.
Have a look here, there are a few Necchi manuals you can look at for free (although you have to pay to download a pdf), maybe one of them is similar to your machine.0 -
Clean both up and down sections, defluff , oil and put in a new needle. Rethread. Then adjust the tension. Oh, and do not use cheap fluffy thread. Get proper sewing machine thread.
Which is easy for me to say as I'm familiar with sewing machines. Sorry! But that's what I'd do. Hopefully you can find a manual that will help you with the above.Val.0 -
There is usually a screw on the bobbin case - not familiar with this make so maybe not. Before you put the bobbin case back in the machine try pulling the thread through. It should be fairly taut and the bobbin should only rotate as much as you pull (if the bobbin continues to spin in the bobbin case after you've stopped pulling the thread then the tension on the bobbin case is too loose IYSWIM).0

Thanks for all the suggestions.
Got right inside, only just realised you can tip the machine on it's side to get right underneath it - has a kind of wooden box as a base.
cleaned all the bits (and got them back in the right place!!) and it seems to be working ok!
Thanks for all the hints though...I could well be back at some point!
I do need to oil it though!
luckily the woman who sold me the machine did diagrams for threading and also doing the bobbins.I've got my own flat :j:j

I'm hoping someone can recommend a good online tutorial or help pages for help with a sewing machine.
I'm really only a basic user and I'm having problems with my machine and I'm totally stuck on how to fix it.
I bought it on ebay, it's an old machine and the seller hadn't got the manual so I can't even refer to this.
I was having problems with getting the needle to pick up the bottom bobbin thread. I then managed to get it looped but it now won't sew properly.
When you look at the reverse the stitches are not evenly sized and at one point there is a tangle of threads. Then the bottom thread doesn't seem to pick up properly and the top thread breaks....
I'm probably not explaining myself properly but I'm not really sure what to try to fix it, I've not really tried anything as a bit stuck as to where to start.
It's an old machine, a Necchi Sewline 8. I reckon from the 70s judging from the style of it but it seems to be a fairly standard type of sewing machine.
I've tried a google search but nothing really helpful has turned up so far, I'm probably not looking in the right places!
Thanks in advance

Oh good a sewing machine problem thread - just what I need!
I have a Toyota machine (RS2000 Series) that I haven't used for a while but it's always worked well. Today the motor sounds but nothing is moving - not the bobbin winder nor the needle. I can't see any obvious cause and it threaded up fine.
Is there anything simple I can do/check or do a need a professional please?
