Bought a sewing machine at the weekend (car boot sale, very mse) :money:
Made one cushion cover with it and it was fine, then had to wind a new bobbin. now, it keeps jamming, and the stitches are all loopy and messy at the back.
Any suggestions? it is threaded up right, the bobbin ousing is in the right place, and I haven't changed the tensioning. Any other things to check/try?
I want to finish my second envelope cover!!!

I sounds like the tension try winding the bobbin again but do it slowly sometimes if you wind it too fast the thread is too tight on the bobbin spool0

I will try that... any other ideas?:jMummy to 2 small 4 year old bundles of mischief!:j0

It is important that you put the bobbin in the right way round in the bobbin case holder too, also make sure that the thread is passing under the tension spring correctly, if it was sewing fine before you inserted a new bobbin it is unlike to need any adustment unless the thread is much thicker or thiner than the thread you were using before.
I would google the name of the sewing machine and see if you can download some instructions if the machine didn't come with any.LBM 26th April 2009 Debts at LBM £7777.49:eek:

Hi all,
Wonder of anyone here can help me. I am quite new to sewing and have recently bough a sewing machine, it has been running fine and I have made a bag and now onto the second.
Last night when I was using it, it suddenly jammed and won't sew any more. I tried removing all the thread and the bobbin in the bit below and even removed the needle but it won't go at all. I changed it to try and wind a bobbin and that works ok. Not sure what else to try - any ideas? It's a John Lewis JL125 if that helps?

Hi Jade,
is there any lint or threads jammed under the dog feeds?0 -
Hi Gothdolly, thanks for the reply, I will check this this evening. I did have a look and pulled out the bobbin just to see if anything was going on there. I'll have another look though, I'm still finding my way around the machine but will get there eventually!

Hi guys,
I used to be a dab hand on a sewing machine for bits and pieces but havn't used one in ages.
Bought a little mini one for some crafty bits and bobs and was sitting down to go over it today. Have got it threaded but when I try and sew the top thread doesn't catch the bottom thread and so nothing actually gets sewn (if that makes any sense at all)
Got a feeling everything I knew about them has gone out my mind hehe and that this is a stupid question- but would rather ask the stupid question and get the answer than plod on in anguish lol.
(have also posted this on special occassions)0 -
have you brought the bottom thrread up? you do it by lowering the top threaded needle down and then catching the loop as it raises again and putting to the back behind the needle. if the bobbin is loaded the wrong way it might not catch either so check for that too.0

Check your needle. Many times problems with sewing machines not sewing is down to a blunt needle, needle incorrectly fitted, or incorrect type of needle (too long/short) for the machine.0

needle is the one that come with the machine, pre-fitted. And the bottom thread is up (is poking out through the hole where the needle goes down if that makes sense?0
