  • I was looking to insure a vehicle with 1st central but dnt think so any more. The guy was nice on the phone, took a while to get through though. Thanks. You may have saved me a lot of stress.
  • The price was great until I needed to change my car. No department I got through to knew it what the costs to change would be. Most times I rang over 6 weeks I was transferred to 'the other departmenr' left on hold for up to 30 minutes of hen then the line w nr dead. When I cancelled and reinsured with someone else they harassed me most days yet when I mentioned the issues I had for six weeks I was again told I need to speak to the other department. I had a terminally ill relative in hospital whilst this was happening and said I would get in touch with the them at a more convenient time. They kept ringing demanding more bey for the remains three months that but wer vi able to give me a breakdown of why the t would cost a huge amount more of Han I would have paid via direct debit. I have spoken to someone twice a week for six weeks, I have been told the matter will be resolved yet still get harassed by them. They are unable to explain why the costs are my re than the original policy and rang me everyday I was visiting my relative at a time when I had to insure with someone else so I had a car to travel in. For one whole month I paid for their insurance when I had sold the car and bought a different one. I was nable to drive he new car as they couldn't work out the correct price adjustment so my car sat on the drive and I made arrangements to get to irk and visit my relative who was in hospital 70 miles away. They are a company to stay away from at all costs even if they are the cheapest. If it seems to good to be true it usually is in their case. Reinsured with Diamond who hav been fantastic like all my other insurers. Oh and finally, when I set the original policy up with 1st central they threatened to cancel my policy and charge me a further £75 for not proving my no claims he I had posted it twice and faxed it many times. They argued hey had no proof of it for two weeks until finally a copy magically appeared in their office. My advise of to use a reputable company even if they are a more expensive. They caused me more upset and heartache and left me paying for insurance for a car I no longer had at a time when I most needed my car.
  • Thats not on at all. Maybe go to insurance regulator?
  • ....is my advice. I paid to insure my car with them at the beginning of March. One of the criteria was that my wife needed cover to drive for business use. I was assured that my documents would be ready to view within 48 hours. They were not. I tried to contact them and after an absolute song and dance finally got through to someone shoe assured me ( Again) that the documents would be viewable within 24 hours of that conversation. This they were not. So again the whole song and dance routine of trying to get through on what would appear to be a premium rate number ensued. This time I requested that a certificate of motor insurance be emailed to me to confirm cover. This did arrive but at section 6 after stating that business use by my wife was indeed covered, in the very next sentence included "commercial travel" as one of the exclusions for this policy.

I once again attempted to contact someone about this ambiguous wording and was told by the call handler that "it should be alright" I was not prepared to accept this and after consulting my solicitor for clarification, was advised that the wording was so ambiguous as to be meaningless with loopholes so large, any insurance cover for the business use would be easily denied. I once again asked for a certificate of insurance with clear wording relating to the cover I had been charged for but 1st Central were unable to provide one so I informed them by phone and email of the fact I was cancelling the policy and the reasons for doing so.

Since then I have been harassed for payments and threatened with legal action interspersed with emails requesting I let them know how well I think they are doing! Do not be fooled by the cheaper prices here people! Cheaper is not always the best route. I cannot advise against dealing with 1st Central Insurance highly enough!

This saga is still ongoing with the threatening email and phone campaign still ongoing. My solicitor is very confident that should they actually try to show a non payment marker with a credit reference agency, the threat that has been made on more than one occasion, I will be in an extremely strong position to sue and believe me, that is exactly what I will be doing!

They were never going to provide a bespoke certificate and I don't think many insurers would.

Commercial travelling is widely recognised and would not have allowed them to deny business use cover (as long as she isn't commercial travelling).

I insured for one year with this lot. Fortunately I didn't have any need to make a claim.
Prior to this I had always insured with very well known companies.
I discovered accidentally that my fully comp ins with first central didnt let me drive other people's cars with their permission third party.
I made a mistake by not googling for reviews before I signed up. I now try to remember to google reviews for anything I buy from hair dyers to car insurance. Not always easy to remember to do it but I try. Hope that's a good tip for any readers.
  • All I can say is OMG. Bought the new policy with 1 Central in March. Entered all the details correctly on compare.com, however was investigated for 6 weeks like a biggest criminal, because on their system the details were different (despite me printing the screenshot with the correct details on compare.com). They have listened to the phone conversation only to find out that I was not asked them questions over the phone. I did make about 15 calls trying to solve the problem. All 15 times asked to speak to Manager and not a single time I was transferred to any. Looks like the managers don't exist at all over there. Finally the issue got solved by one helpful advisor over the phone last week and he has emailed the confirmation the issue has been solved and the matter is closed. All good until yesterday's email, that my policy has been automatically canceled!!! Back on the phone again trying to solve the matter. Next year even if they are cheaper than others by 50% NO way I stay with them. I can only imagine what they are like if accident happens during a year. Normally I don't leave any feedback anywhere, but people must know of this one. Stay AWAY
  • Let's not forget with me they charged an extra £500 premium for an accident I thought i'd declared.

Ignoring this fact I wasn't angry at this. I was angry at the fact that it's their company policy NOT to inform you in writing but to simply add the fee and then inform you via spam email!

So it's ok suddenly to take this amount of money out of someones account without informing them. That's what payday loan companies are supposed to do.

Well also they seem to say I owe them £350 on the website for some reason given the fact I did actually pay my insurance fees on time.

No doubt another BS reason will be given.
  • A made the final payment to my incurance with 1st central on the 29gh August and my policy was meant to run till the 20tg of October but they cancelled my policy on the 4th of September for no reason what so ever the company's a joke
  • agree with all the things posted on here. beware of this company, they will charge you a flat rate of £50 across the board for any minor change to your policy regardless. when i tried to argue this point they said they charged everyone this and there were no exceptions and therefore it was fair of them to charge me it too. the fact they had charged for £150 a month earlier to cancel another policy, they were uncompromising in taking this into account. i would warn anyone taking up their policy with them that they treat their customers with the utmost lack of care, respect and consideration. i dread to think how they would be if you actually made a claim. on a side note, their response times to picking up the phone to answer queries is quite long too
