Water purifying tablets - I saw the bit about diarrhoea tabs and though if you get that you might want these to make sure the water's fit for drinking

A little unconventional, but a bullet with their name on it.

Although usually best before they go. I have used these (once) and was surprised with the turn around and the quality.

    Skylight... it's a danish company ;) Ofcourse they're good :P Sorry couldn't resist hehehe

My mate is out in OP HERRICK at the moment and as a girl at the front end of things she's mainly grateful for the nicer brands of tampons and sanitary towels, face wipes, and all those infernal freebies you always get with mags or by registering with sites :)
Other things they have been grateful for are books - all sorts are welcomed! If they are not out on patrol they are often stuck just hanging round with nothing to do...
    Sweets - lots of them!
    Pringles :D
Squash - small bottles of concentrated squash is a fave...
Try to avoid anything like Zoo and Nuts...
Depending on where they are then as mentioned different things might be available in shops but a lot of areas they are stuck with no shops for weeks on end - all the sachets of tomato sauce, salt, pepper, BBQ sauce etc from McD and Domino's etc help liven the food up.
    Supernoodles, smash all those things...
Packs of cards or travel games go down well too :) Especially if they are small enough to easily be carried in a pocket.

    hi

My son is just back from Afghanistan and the thing he most liked was lots of different little items , such as small packets of different sweets rather than a huge one packet.

I bought little wooden puzzles out of poundland , when i was in there was about 6 differnt kinds and he said these were difficult (maybe because he threw the instructions away befroe reading) but great and passed a few days.

Peperami were great and travel well.

Dont worry if you send something they don't like as i think they just trade them with friends for something they like
  • I know this is an old thread but I just wondered where you get the address so send stuff to?
A friend of mine is going out in March however we had a fall out and don't really talk at the moment. However, I promised I would send him a parcel whilst he's out there so I wanted to uphold that as I am a girl of my word.
I can't speak to him to ask the address though... :(

You can't get the address if he won't give it to you. You could try sending a parcel through one of the many organisations that do them. They are given out randomly and don't go to specific people.
  • joining in on this old thread.
i'm deploying soon for the summer tour and our welfare centre has put some ideas on boards.
things like Rubik's cube's, small battery operated lights, funny pictures.
are just some things that can keep there chin up recommended from guys who are out there just now

Do you have to post things in boxes or can you use padded envelopes for smaller packages? I'm not sending enough to fill a shoebox this week.

    You can use anything, envelopes/padded envelopes/boxes. I've used all three, as long as the w, h & l don't exceed approx 80cm I think
