Broadband (clear 100gb cap).

Hi people.

Currently i'm on ZEN old plan that is of 2mbps and 100gb cap and monthly contract. 35 quid a month. Dont really mind the price. I need to move, and the property that i move into is of unclear status as to phoneline. Hasnt been used for quite a while. I'm moving into 4 nekkid walls that needs to be turned to "home" (means renovating big time). Zen is refusing to suspend the service and want me to pay throughout my moving (which will take some time to do and i wont be using bband anway(renovating remember)).

Thing that gets me though is that i cannot get this same plan as a new customer, if i decide to cancel and reapply for service again. Means i'd be paying 35 quid for (questionably) faster speeds (would be nice) and half the cap (50gb, which is not an option).

So, here's the question - which ISP nowadays supply bband with clear 100+GB cap ? speed is of no real importance (as long as i get 2mbps).

I know all the "unlimited*" bullsh!t that companies pull now. So if the net is unlimited (notice no quotes and asterisk) its all good and well, but dont care about "unlimited"...give me (good) caps or give me death...

Can i be helped here ? Or should i just swallow possibly up to 105 quid (+bt rent for up to 3 months) for not being able to suspend and/or use the Zen bband...
So, any companies watchmen here want my business ?

I can be contacted via this forum or if companies want t talk to me directly by email: nddinfo@gmail.com

Thanks in advance

I'm with TalkTalk which is not too bad but they have put their prices up slightly just lately, I was looking at the Virgin website and they seem to do a good offer, more than I'm getting with TalkTalk and at a cheaper price.

sky llu, o2/be llu both unlimited and fast adsl2+, o2 access unlimited adsl but gets a bit slow at peak times.

....500gb+ not unheard of on the llu products! no known problems for the access product either regarding the allowance...just the speeds being a BTw product :(

Explain LLU. Dont know much about it. The property is located in rural area, regural bband is in, couple of houses over has it, so its possible.

Define "slow". If its not slower than 2mbps i'd be happy.

LLU is local loop unbundled. Means companies have took over the phone line for broadband from the exchange to your house.

Many rural exchanges will not have LLU as the cost will not be paid back by subscriptions.

Then i'll have to stick with regular bb, and i'm perfectly fine with it. Who gives good caps on regular bb ?

Checked Virgin - no clear cap description, some muddy throttling table which i couldnt make any sense of...

Definitely not going with timewasters like talktalk, orange, plusnet, pipex etc.

Threedee you should check to see if you can get o2 home Broadband Premium sub. One year of upto 24Mbps down/1.3Mbps up with NO limits on download can cost as little £18.11 for one YEAR, more realistically £48.11 for a YEAR as you say you don't have an o2 mobile phone already.

The only problem is that it may not be available to you. The aspect of "LLU" isn't anything to be worried about - it just means they have THEIR kit at the exchange rather than having to rely on BT kit there. The migration/use of the ADSL/data part of your phoneline remains as for any ADSL, ie migrate with a MAC in (and a MAC out if you want to). You MAY be worried by the "LLU" term as SOME providers want to take over the entire line including line rental and voice which CAN give rise to issues/costs with leaving them should you ever wish to - that doesn't apply to o2, they leave your line rental and voice 100% alone, just migrate/activate the ADSL on it.

See my latest summary posting over on ThinkBroadband, including pros/cons and detailed costings

Apparently O2 do have an LLU thingy in local exchange. Which is nice. I will have to retain BT for a phoneline. I dont suppose O2 provide landline-like voice, because i need my old number for business.

I have 1 phone on O2 but PAYG. And i cant see how it works out at £48.11 for a YEAR (if i dont have o2 phone)???

there's a quidco thing for £70 I think with o2...maybe some free months as well...all gets a bit complicated :)
...but....the O2 LLU is something I'd jump on given the opportunity!

...but again....rural usually suggests a long way out of town == long way from the exchange == slow internet (can't fight physics) :(
