Scorgeous, if you want to improve your time for 5k then you will need to lengthen your long runs. You need to run slowly and easy on these runs, its not about going as fast as you can, its about getting the body used to running the distance. If you are going to do 3 runs a week 1 should be an easy 3 miles at the moment, 1 should be a fartlekk session where you plan say a 3 mile route, do a warm up then run full pace for a period of time (pick a point on the horizon) then run easy and repeat. The other run of the week should be a long easy run where you are just aiming to increase your distance over 5k and realistically to 5/6 miles and run so you can hold a conversation or sing. If you do these your 5k times will automatically improve

http://www.fetcheveryone.com/ - I'm finding it a bit addictive at the moment although I'll probably get bored and stop logging my runs after a couple of weeks :o

Oooo - have book marked it for a play later. need to dig out my Nike sensor and stsrt logging runs there too...

    sing??!?

noone said i shuld be able to sing... i can't sing when i'm not exercising... will running help with tone deafness?! yay!!

nah, seriously, good advice from the sally one!

There is a wee running thread on DFW, where there are some hardcore runners giving out good advice, you may want to see what they think too... as long as you're enjoying it then keep running but i'm not sure the sub 30min 5k is important, honestly it will be a by prodoct of good running come time, you obviously have some natural aptitude...

i don't have natural aptitude to running but i enjoy it for the most part, i'm never gonna win races... in fact i get prizes for being last sometimes!!! :T
I'm just a seething mass of contradictions....

Yes Maz gives out good advice again, enjoying running is the most important thing, because if don't enjoy it you won't do it!! For me though I have discovered that I NEED something to work toward otherwise I just don't go...so here's to a 54min 10k lol
