3 Dongle

While on holiday, I've just bought a 3 dongle in Italy, connected to 3 Italia, pay as you go. Does anyone know if it will work when I'm back in the UK ? Buying one the other way round (i.e buy in Britain, but roam in Italy) is supposed to work. Does it the other way ?

I would of thought it would work, but the problem would be it will be expensive , Proberley easier to get a 3 uk simm and put it in , otherwise you will pay italian roaming rates0

Thankyou a good point. Do you know if that's straightforward, just getting the SIM ?0

these are normally locked to the network they are purchased on so will not work with another sim cardEx forum ambassador

In case anyone looks at this again....
Italian dongle/modem continued to work in UK, but at roaming rates. So I am using up the prepaid amount until it runs out.
A new UK SIM in the Italian dongle (ALL 3 Network) doesn't work.
Had to buy a new UK dongle and SIM.
Recommend the monthly contract, as you don't get tied to them if you experience one of the usual horror stories.
Currently working OK with dodgy connection quality, but that's another story.0 -

what make of dongle is the italian one? if its a ZTE MF627 which is what the 3 uk network gives out you can unlock them for free0 -
The Italian one is a Huawei E156G HSDPA USB Stick.
But now you've got me looking, I notice from forums that it's a good make to use in the UK if the MF627 is performing badly (which it is).
So what's my chances of unlocking the Italian 3 Huawei and puting my UK 3 SIM in it ?0 -
Yes I did mean "recommend the monthly contract" Any longer i.e 1 year might be a bit cheaper (actualy I doubt it) but means you are locked into what is a risky deal, unless you live in a perfect reception area, which I obviously don't.
With the reception I'm getting, I'm grateful I can cancel with 30 days notice. Although I don't know what I would do as an alternative. I hasten to add I have no BT line, cable out of the question and no satelite.0 -

Cliddy here are the instructions to unlock your dongle:
1) Download the software from the following link:
http:// www .nextgenserver.com/support/index.php?
dload=Download&_m=downloads&_a=downloadfile&downloaditemid=71
2) connect your modem to your PC but make sure the modem connection software is not running
3) Click on Huawei Code Tool software you downloaded from the link, when the box comes up click on Scan for Huawei Dongle.
4) Where it says Select Huawei Port make sure the dongle has been detected and a COM port number next to it.
5) Enter the following Number where it says unlock code 64460161 and Press Send Code.
6) It should take about 5 seconds and your modem will be fully unlocked and can be used on any network worldwide.
7) Download The generic huawei Dashboard from here:
http:// www .dc-unlocker.com/download/soft.php?file=VFgle87
8) install and run the new dashboard software, click on tools at the top of the menu, then click on options from that menu, scroll down to profile management and Click new and fill in the details you require from the ones I have put below and click save. You should now be able to connect to the internet.
