You may or may not be able to help. Hoping it is a common problem and not just specific to France! I live in Paris. I have a samsung lcd tv. There is some form of Philips free sat box literally a tiny little bo with a blue light and no buttos. Then there is another flat black thing that says CGV I think its sort of a posh…

Just to note, it does not matter if the set is PAL or SECAM when you feed the signal from a sat box via a SCART lead. We are in France, two TVs, one English, one French, both work with English and French Sat boxes, DVDs etc. Plus TVs sold now in France are dual standard.
