Not according to various articles – they have now begun to store e-mails and phone calls records, but not web visits. Even the earlier cited BBC story has been amended to indicate this too: http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/technology/7985339.stm
From the news last week it also appeared ISPs have time to contest this and a year to put in place the required storage facilities, so I'm not sure what is correct...0 -

Can I ask, I've read that over and over again, but how does this work? I assume they mean email going through an ISP's email system. Well what's the point in that? It won't be able to do anything going between two webmail providers. Even if they could somehow intercept webmail (all you're doing is submitting a textbox, your ISP can't know that's an email message without some customised data mining for each webmail provider) then it still wouldn't work as the ISPs wouldn't be able to intercept SSL connections (I'm assuming man in the middle attacks are still illegal here).
Not that there's anything wrong with ISP mail, but seriously, hardly anyone uses it.0 -
I moderate another forum...I can see everyones IP

Perhaps this will also apply to webmail services, e.g. MSN, Google etc, being caught under the scheme having to store all their mailboxes.
Millions use ISP e-mail, either routed or direct POP, IMAP etc. Many businesses/consultants do, many home users, small to medium size businesses often use Exchange or hosted exchanged solutions with their ISP, etc.0 -

I'm assuming hardly any of these servers storing the mail are actually in the UK, so good luck enforcing UK law overseas then. Of course some people do think they can do that...
Not to mention it explicitly says ISPs.Millions use ISP e-mail, either routed or direct POP, IMAP etc. Many businesses/consultants do, many home users, small to medium size businesses often use Exchange or hosted exchanged solutions with their ISP, etc.
Then the criminals/terrorists/whoever we're targeting here will move to webmail.0 -
I think they are mostly targeting people who fill their rubbish bins too full now it's only fortnightly collection and other such high profile targets. Any self respecting terrorist will know how to avoid being electronically tracked by these fumbling fools who only know how to funnel stacks of money into pointless black holes.0

Could logging be the way to weed out multiple IDs?0

It is good to log people's IP so bogus scammers can be banned and traced when applicable0

Could logging be the way to weed out multiple IDs?
Yeah it can. I'm part of another forum (runs on vBulletin too funnily enough), which is provided by a manufacturer of a certain product. They were having problems with certain longstanding forum member signing up with multiple IDs and aggressively marketing competitors products, so they started logging all the multiple IDs and linking them to the single IP address of the perpetrator, and then banning them.
They had no probs with multiple IDs for harmless purposes though - although they can always see who it is!Don't pay off your student loan quicker than you have to.0
