True, which is why Apple lobbied the record companies in order to get them to sell DRM-free music.
There was a feature in iTunes where you could upgrade your previously purchased music to DRM-free tracks. I don't know if it's still there now.

They brought it in under the 2000 digital rights act, I think, but I have a feeling they changed the law again on it.0
