HSBC, Russell Square
Thanks!0 -
If you want to test the depth of the water .........don't use both feet !0

First question to ask HSBC Russell Square is if it's a valid account number with them. If not, it will have rejected into a suspense account and is probably sitting there waiting to be claimed.
If it is a valid account, write a letter to 'the accountholder' with the sortcode and account number and ask HSBC to forward it on your behalf.:heartsmil When you find people who not only tolerate your quirks but celebrate them with glad cries of "Me too!" be sure to cherish them. i know it is a valid account.
I will do as you suggest and ask HSBC to forward a leter0 -
I don't see how you can know it is a valid account of HSBC. The online system will presumably have confirmed the acct number fits the normal pattern of account numbers, and will have accepted it based on that and a valid sortcode.
I still think you're better checking with HSBC first. I would have thought there was a good chance it had rejected into one of their accounts.:heartsmil When you find people who not only tolerate your quirks but celebrate them with glad cries of "Me too!" be sure to cherish them. Legally, the recipient is obliged to return the money.

HSBC and my Bank have confirmed in writing the account belongs to someone0

In that case I agree with jdan9 that you should be able to get your money back.
T&Cs of any account that I'm aware of make it the customer's responsibility to reconcile their acct and notify the bank of any error.

Write to HSBC.
However do bear in mind, reading the example provided on wikipedia, that if the recipient has spent the money without realising, you may not be able to get it back.Dan
