I too am at a loss. I like Tomtom in theory but we have practically bought the company and have only one useable item.

    1) purchased Tomtom one v2 great really good.
    2) purchased Tomtom software for ipaq for Europe on SD card but didnt realise it was a mini card which wouldnt transfer for use in the Tomtom proper. Ipaq played up, couldnt process the whole of Europe anyway.
    3) purchased Tomtom software as a download but internet connection too slow and aborted, numerous phonecalls to support who insiste we have had our download and thats it! Very expensive and good lesson to buy it and have available in hand
    4) Bought card for France for original, as couldnt use Europe on ipaq as it couldnt keep up with us, obv couldnt test it in the Uk so went to France and bingo fine for about a week and then it packed up on us. Cant tell while in France if its the software or the machine as our other card is for the UK.

So now we are back to only have very basic tom tom for the UK having spent about £400

Can someone advise me what might be going wrong on the french card...should we have registered it etc? Is there a cut off oncards if unregistered. Should I just give up on Tomtom and buy another make of Satnav.

    Thanks

Was it just the maps downloading that failed? Was there a licence that came with the map?
If it was just the maps and you already have the licence/activation code, it may be possible to use someone else's copy of the relevant map.

I think there were access codes specific to downloading. Thanks for the suggestion but it seems unlikely.

What seems unlikely? What was my suggestion? :)

What is an "access code specific to downloading"?

Are you referring to a download link? If it is just the map, you can download that seperately, but do you have a licence to use said map?

Can you ask support exactly what is included in the download. If it is just a map, of course others will have that download. If a licence or activation number is included with the map, TomTom cannot refuse to supply you with said code.

Please do a little research before replying.
