I've owned a TomTom and a Garmin, and tried out someone elses Navman. They were all pretty good, but I liked the Navman user interface the least.
TomTom seemed better for advanced features like Itinerary route planning, but the mapping wasn't as accurate.
Overall I prefer the Garmin Nuvi, because it's easiest to do simple routes on it.
Yes, they are all plug and go, but if you read the user manual you'll get to understand some of the features like POIs which you may not otherwise know about.
BTW, if you have a car with an athermic screen (mainly French cars, IIRC) then you may need a separate aerial, but sensitivity of the receivers has been much improved in the last couple of years.0 -
I use a TomTom myself & so far its been great, easy to use & set up
Have a look here http://www.satnav-discounts.co.uk/tomtom-go/tomtom-go-gb-series.htm for prices0 -
Garmin here, very nice nice touches, good web site, POIs, even Xmas themes for unit - special festive icons- easy and the best. Seen TT and Navman but sticking to Nuvi. Better mapping software.0

I used to sell sat-navs and used a lot of different brands. My personal choice is Tomtom but in the shop we agreed Tomtom and Garmin joint first with Navman close runner up. Anything else is much more complex to use. I was using a Nuvi in Edinburgh and it was very slow to change direction at a complex junction and caused a load of problems :mad:0

Go for this one . Only £50 one of the best. Can easily put Tom Tom on it. Very easy and reliable0 -
The Garmin Nuvi 205W has won alot of awards from magazines such as which? and what? I think it's very good compared to the Tom Tom's I've seen.:T If you don't have anything sensible to say, don't say it! :T0
