Do you ever get embarrased by being broke?

I loved sailing at school, but when I got to uni all the sailing club were upper class sounding throwing parent's money around type of people, so I had to give it up.
Went around with the metal heads instead (and made friends for life), who were more my income level if you like (though some of them had loaded parents, they didn't flaunt it).
What I am trying to say is that I have never been embarrassed about being skint because at the time all of the people around me were as well. Now that I am older I just have the sense of priorities to say no to what I an't affor. And if people don't like it is their problem not mine
chevI want a job that is less than an hour driving away from my house! Are you listening universe?

You might feel that lifes a bit carp now but at least your working towards the goal of getting debt free, a lot of people aren't.
That's the thing, isn't it? Everyone else mght be in a worse state, they just haven't wisened up to it as yet. I can think of one guy at my work - his wife works for the same firm - and we've often sat around at lunchtime saying, "What are we doing wrong that everyone else is out spending all the time?" I guess the point is, we're not doing anything wrong, everyone else is! Almost debt-free, but certainly even with the Banks!0 -
Don't be fooled by appearances i was with someone one day who had earlier made remarks about supermarket own brands and how could anyone possibly suffer the embarrassment of buying them. then later at her house and she asked if i would like a drink whilst i waited in her house. when i followed her to the kitchen she couldn't close the cupboards fast enough, they were filled to the brim with own brand products. She quickly back tracked and said she only meant buying them in store not online.lol
I don't for the life of me understand this:rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:
I'll be honest I don't buy much own brand & I rarely buy value stuff, BUT if I wanted to fill my trolly with it, I would.
I don't choose my shopping for what it looks like in the trolly or my cupboards, I buy it for what it tastes like;):D0 -
My son is now 26. I remember having to keep him off school when he was 9 because i didn't have the 10p for him for "wear his own clothes day" at school. I STILL feel guilty and embarrassed about it even those days are long gone.0

Oh Annie I know how you feel. I have been so skint I have had to sell belongings just to buy food and also had to take days off work as holiday just because I couldn't afford the petrol.
Things are a bit better these days but although I am not in debt I so easily could be if I wasn't looking at what I spend each month.Find out who you are and do that on purpose (thanks to Owain Wyn Jones quoting Dolly Parton)0 -
I don't get embarrassed but I do get annoyed with others. I know I shouldn't but I can't help it. I know of one person who never has enough money at the end of the month, they struggle to find the money to travel to work and need to borrow to eat the few days before payday but in the first few days after payday always buy themselves a DVD or two as a 'treat'. the same £20 they spend on that DVD is the £20 they are borrowing at the end of the month to get to work and eat. It's crazy! They make me so mad! Learn after the first time!!:hello: - Proud to be dealing with my debts!:j DFW nerd No. 1011!
I'm back, and this time I mean business!
