I think you might be wise to get someone else to fit your stereo.

I have an Alpine iDA-X100 in my car which I connect an 80gb classic too, I also have an iphone. I did try connecting my iphone into my other halfs Kenwood stereo but it didnt like it at all lol. From what I can gather, connection into the alpine head units are a lot simpler and I can highly recommend the Alpine.

The easiest solution would be an itrip http://www.currys-ishop.co.uk/cgi-bin/product.pl?PID=1366948&query=griffin%20fmt2%20itouch&path=156076,303919,303958
small thingy you plug into the bottom of the ipod, tune it to your radio and it transmits a small FM signal your radio picks up. You can listen to your ipod on any radio.

From experience, the itrip isnt brilliant, reception can be patchy and if another car close by is on the same frequency then you can get their music coming through instead!!0 -

Mine are both Kenwoods, and I've had no problems. Even managed to connect one to the steering wheel controls.
One has USB on the front, and the other has the cable running through the passenger footwell, as described above.:A MSE's turbo-charged CurlyWurlyGirly:A

I agree. FM receivers are seriously inferior compared to having decent kit.:A MSE's turbo-charged CurlyWurlyGirly:A

Buy one with a front usb socket. That way, no drilling and it also powers the ipod.
Search for Kenwood BT6544U as an example.
Buy the right connection kit and its simply a case of swapping the cables over. Took me 10 mins to do mine.0
