Read all the smallprint before you book with the third party agents. The car hire companies use the refueling policies to make their money!0

I've spent all day today (sad me but i don't like being ripped off) trying to find ANY car hire in majorca for 4 day rental that has a fair fuel policy. I don't think there is one at all. If anyone knows better please let me know. It seems every car-hire firm has follwed the others in the full return empty rip-off0

Hertz, cheaper if booked through Ebookers, click on exclusions to see the fuel policy, full to full. They do have high CDW excesses though, so may cancel out any savings on fuel.0 -

It's not a ripoff. As always on these boards, if something is said to be a ripoff, it rarely is - and in this case, it isn't. You don't have to hire a car! From Poland...with love.
They are (they're) sitting on the floor.
Their books are lying on the floor.
The books are sitting just there on the floor.0 -
Who said it was a rip off. MRT1610 did not say it was a rip off. He or she stated that they don't like being ripped off.0

All vehicles are supplied with a full tank of fuel and it is the customer's responsibility to return the vehicle full or pay for any missing fuel at the end of rental. On rentals of 5 days or longer we will automatically add the cost of a full tank of fuel to our rental charges at time of pick up. This method eliminates the need for you to refuel the tank prior to returning. The fuel amount charged at time of rental will be based on a market competitive price and the car model rented. We are unable to issue a refund for unused fuel.
A fuel deposit will not be required for rentals of 5 days or longer. For rentals of 1 to 4 days a fuel purchase option is available. Ask for further details when picking up your vehicle.

Last summer I rented a car from Lisbon airport, from Iberent via ArgusCarHire.com. The car was fine and the fuel policy was pick up full of fuel, and return it full. After a wait of well over an hour for the Iberent person to arrive, despite several calls to their office, the car was delivered only 3/4 full. No problem, I was told, just return it with the same amount in the tank, which I did.
Surprise surprise, I later found that my card had been charged an extra 10 euros for fuel. When I raised this with Iberent and Argus, Iberent ignored me and Argus just quoted the fuel policy back at me. My big mistake was that I had thrown away the rental agreement when I got home, so I have had to accept the charge.
With the late delivery and charging me for unused fuel, I would therefore not recommend either company to anyone travelling to Lisbon.0 -
The car hire companies would probably justify their fuel policies and all their extra charges by saying they offer low base rates of hire. They have to make their money somewhere. But they don't half make work for you. mrt1610 is right. You can spend all day doing your research. Hours are spent getting quotes, checking terms and conditions and scratching your head trying to work out what details you may have missed. It's all part of the conspiracy to make life harder. They take their inspiration from the people who draw up a thousand different mobile phone plans.
