    Hi claire,

It's not something I've ever made but this thread might help:

    Pulled Pork For Quesdaillas?

I'll add your thread to that one later to keep the ideas together.

I do it with beer in my slow cooker for about 8 hours, then shred and mix with bbq sauce.

I cover mine in full fat coke and put in the slow cooker for about 8 hours on low.

yeah - I think the proper recipe is for a dry rub and the pork to be slow cooked for about 12 hours in an oven - then a couple of hours in bbq sauce until the sauce has virtually disappeared. then shred the pork. I think the recipes above a lot less hassle! go for it!

All the recipes I can find online for slow cooker bbq pulled pork, which I love, love, love, use either a jar of ready made bbq sauce, or ketchup. As far as I am concerned, ketchup is the work of the devil- I hate the smell, and it does not cross my doorstep! (much to the dismay of my 6yr old DS )

Anyone got a recipe for slowcooker, bbq pulled pork, that doesnt use either a jar or ketchup? or another recipe that I might adapt for the slow cooker

    Many thanks

If you google "crockpot pulled pork" you get recipes like this:

For info Vidalia onion is just a sweet mild onion, but any should do.

    Hi minimooch,

As your thread has dropped down the board I've added it to our existing thread where there are a couple of recipes which don't involve jars of bbq sauce or ketchup.

I have had pulled beef, which I imagine is similar. From what I remember the woman said she cooked it for a while in a pressure cooker. I imagine cooking it for ages in a slow cooker might have the same effect, as if I cook our stew in SC for too long it goes a bit stringy, soft though, and tastes lush.

I love pulled pork I find the best method is long slow cooking in the oven at a very low temperature, then it is so tender it just melts in your mouth.

With regards to the poster about the ketchup, a lot of barbeque sauces are based around ketchup this is what gives them their sweet sticky base but you can use things like passatta or chopped tomatoes if making your won and then blend the sauce after cooking
