  • If you have a Morrisons near you, I highly recommend their pig cheeks. They taste amazing when cooked in the slow cooker with some chicken stock and star anise. AND they are really cheap! they are really 'Meaty' and taste more like Beef. Wonderful in rolls with a home made barbecue sauce.

So after I've cooked it in the slow cooker, I could just let it cool down and then freeze it?

And when I want to eat the leftovers, just defrost it, then heat in the microwave?

Yes, and yes :) I tend to add a squirt of barbecue sauce before microwaving, as the meat will absorb quite a lot of the cooking liquid once it's been shredded, the sauce makes it moist again.

There are rarely leftovers here though, as 6 out of 7 of us love it. DH likes it cold on a sarnie the day after. HTH.

I've done it with pork chops too, though tend to do as suggested and cook a large joint and freeze.

You can do 'pulled chicken' in a similar way, which may be a way to get a similar meal out of a smaller amount of meat, or as something a little different if your girls aren't so keep on the pork!

Thank you all soo much! I was just going to head to Tesco tomorrow, but there is a Morrisons just as close, so think I'll got there after I've dropped my girls at school.

Pig's cheeks eh? Are they called this on the packet? I'll look out for them. Might make the pulled pork with that instead.

And the pulled chicken sounds yum. My girls are more into chicken than pork, but they need to start trying different things.

hi! I bought a joint from Aldi for £4.29 fed 4 people sunday lunch and made another meal for 4 (generously!) best way to cook it is to covered in apple juice (if its for grown ups only I use tesco value bitter 4 tins for £1) and slow cook for 5-6 hours.

It was a great dinner last week and I made corn breads too!

  • Pollyanna, Yes, they are called Pork cheeks on the label! If in doubt, they normally have some behind the butchers counter. Just ask there. Please try them...they are amazing! Absolutely no waste and they cost about £1.80 a pack!

The cooked pork is "pulled" often using a pair of forks so the meat is teased into strands. And looks something like this:

Well, I did venture into Morrisons and bought a boneless pork shoulder lump (didn't see the pig cheeks, also didn't ask though as once I saw the pork shoulder for £2.19, I just bought that).

The bit I bought was only 405g, but it was plenty for me and my girls - well it would have been if they'd eaten it! Think I put a little bit too much bbq sauce in for their liking as they both tried the tiniest bit.

The result was that I ended up eating pretty much all of it! But I thought it was delish! Decided I will make it for my mum and dad it was that good!
